How do I clean the corona wire?

If you are experiencing print quality problems, follow the procedure below to clean the corona wire.

Do NOT use flammable substances or any type of spray to clean the inside or outside of the machine. Doing this may cause a fire or electrical shock.

Just after you have used the FAX/ DCP/ MFC, some internal parts of the machine are extremely hot.

  1. Unplug the machine.
  2. Open the front cover.
  3. Lift the drum unit a little and pull it out.
  4. Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disponsable paper to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.
  5. Carefully turn the drum unit upside down.
  6. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tab from right to left several times.

  7. Return the tab to Home position before reinstalling the drum unit.

If you do not position the tab at the Home position, printed pages may have vertical stripes.

  8. Re-install the drum unit into the machine.
  9. Close the front cover.
  10. Plug in the power cord.
