FAQs & Troubleshooting

Adjust my Brother machine's Sleep Mode setting.

Setting the Sleep Time reduces power consumption when the Brother machine is idle. You can choose how long the Brother machine is idle before it goes into Sleep Mode. The Sleep Mode timer is automatically reset when the Brother machine receives a fax or PC data, or make copy. The factory setting is 5 minutes.

If you try to print or copy in Sleep Mode, there will be a short delay before the machine begins operating.

Please follow these steps below to adjust the Sleep Mode setting.

  1. Do one of the following:

    For models with FAX functions:
Press MENU, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Sleep Mode).

    For models without FAX functions:
Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 6 (Sleep Mode).

  2. Use the dial pad or numeric key to enter the amount of time you want the machine to remain idle before it enters Sleep Mode.

You can enter 00 to 99 minutes.

  3. Do one of the following:

    For models with FAX functions:
    Press the SET key.

    For models without FAX functions:
    Press the MENU/SET key.

  4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
