How do I dial One Touch and Speed Dial numbers?

Sending a fax with a One Touch number


To send a fax using a One Touch number, follow these steps:
  1. Place the document(s) you want to fax into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.

  2. Press the ONE TOUCH key on which you have stored the number you want to dial.

    • To dial One Touch numbers 17 through 32, hold the SHIFT key as you press the One Touch key.

    • If you press a One Touch key on which you have not stored a number, the Brother machine's LCD will read "Not Registered."

  3. Press the FAX START key.

Making a voice call with a One Touch number


To make a voice call using a One Touch number, follow these steps:
  1. Do one of the following:

    • Press the HOOK key.

    • Lift your Brother machine's handset.

  2. When you hear a dial tone, press the ONE TOUCH key on which you have stored the number you want to dial.

    • To dial One Touch numbers 17 through 32, hold the SHIFT key as you press the One Touch key.

    • If you press a One Touch key on which you have not stored a number, the Brother machine's LCD will read "Not Registered."

  3. Do one of the following:

    • If you pressed the HOOK key, pick up the Brother machine's handset when the other party answers.

    • If you did not press the HOOK key, go to STEP 4.

  4. Replace the handset when the call is over.

Sending a fax with a Speed Dial number


To send a fax using a Speed Dial number, follow these steps:
  1. Place the document(s) you want to fax into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.

  2. Press the SEARCH/SPEED DIAL key.

  3. Press #.

  4. Press the three-digit (the two-digit for FAX-4100/FAX-4100e) Speed Dial number you want to dial.

    • If you enter a Speed Dial location on which you have not stored a number, the Brother machine's LCD will read "Not Registered."

  5. Press the FAX START key.

Making a voice call with a Speed Dial number


To make a voice call using a Speed Dial number, follow these steps:
  1. Do one of the following:
    • Press the HOOK key.

    • Lift your Brother machine's handset.

  2. When you hear a dial tone, press the SEARCH/SPEED DIAL key.

  3. Press #.

  4. Press the three-digit (the two-digit for FAX-4100/FAX-4100e) Speed Dial number you want to dial.

    • If you enter a Speed Dial location on which you have not stored a number, the Brother machine's LCD will read "Not Registered."

  5. Do one of the following:

    • If you are making a voice call and pressed the HOOK key, pick up the Brother machine's handset when the other party answers.

    • If you did not press the HOOK key, go to STEP 6.

  6. Replace the handset when the call is over.

Searching for One Touch or Speed Dial contacts by name


You can search the names you have stored with your One Touch and Speed Dial numbers to find the number you want to dial. These names are stored in alphabetical order.
To search your stored One Touch and Speed Dial numbers by name and send a fax, follow these steps:
  1. Place the document(s) you want to fax into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.

  2. Press the SEARCH/SPEED DIAL key.

  3. On the dial pad, press the first letter of the name you want to call.

  4. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to search the stored names.

  5. Press the FAX START key to send the fax.
To search your stored One Touch and Speed Dial numbers by name and make a voice call, follow these steps:
  1. Press the SEARCH/SPEED DIAL key.

  2. On the dial pad, press the first letter of the name you want to call.

  3. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to search the stored names.

  4. When the Brother machine's LCD shows the name you want to call, do one of the following:

    • Press the HOOK key.

    • Lift the Brother machine's handset.

  5. Press the FAX START key to dial the number.

  6. Do one of the following:

    • If you are making a voice call and pressed the HOOK key, pick up the Brother machine's handset when the other party answers.

    • If you did not press the HOOK key, go to STEP 6.

  7. Replace the handset when the call is over.
