Hear the dialing, ringing, and fax-receiving tones while I'm sending a fax.

Manual transmission lets you hear the dialing, ringing, and fax-receiving tones while you send a fax.

To manually send a fax, follow these steps:
  1. Press Fax on the Brother machine.

  2. Place the document you want to fax into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Press Hook or Speaker Phone and listen for a dial tone.
    • If your Brother machine has handset, lift the machine's handset and listen for a dial tone.
    • Lift an external telephone's handset and listen for a dial tone.

  4. Dial the number you want to send to.

  5. When you hear the fax tones, press Black Start or Color Start on the machine.

  6. If you lifted the machine's handset (if applicable) or an external telephone's handset, hang it up.
