FAQs & Troubleshooting

I keep getting the error message "Authenticate Err (Authentication error)".

This error message appears because of the following reasons.

  • The user name and password are not configured.
  • The user name and password you entered are not correct.
  • The date and time on your Brother machine does not match the date and time on the file server and authentication server.
  • The SNTP time server protocol is not configured correctly.

Please check the following to solve the problem:

  1. Check if the user name and password are configured or entered correctly.

    1. Type http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of your machine) into your browser.

    2. Click Administrator Settings.
    3. Enter a user name and a password.
The User Name is "admin" and the default password is "access".

If you don't know the password, please consult the network administrator.

    1. Do one of the following.

      • If you scanned the document directly to an FTP server on your local network or on the intranet (Scan to FTP), or scanned the document directly to a CIFS server on your local server or on the intranet (Scan to Network), click FTP/Network Scan Profile. Go to STEP 1-e.
      • If you are using the Store Print Log to Network feature, click Store Print Log to Network. Go to STEP 1-f.

    3. Check if the user name and password are configured or entered correctly. If these are NOT configured, please configure them.

    • If you are using the Scan to Network function or the Store Print Log to Network feature and the username is part of a domain, please input the username in one of the following styles: user@domain or domain/user.
    • If you don't know the username and password for an FTP server or a CIFS server, please consult the network administrator.
