What do the indicator lights mean?

The indicator lights and flashes to indicate your printer's status. The symbols used in this FAQ explain the meaning of the different indicator colors and patterns:

(Twice for 0.5 seconds → Off for 2 seconds)

- Rechargeable battery power: low

Charge the rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Low Battery! Remaining battery error The error appears just before the printing and when the printer cannot print because of the weak battery although the printer is connected and charged with an adapter, USB or cradle.

Recharge Battery! Rechargeable battery

Charge the rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Close Cover
Cover open error Close the roll compartment cover.
System Error! XX System error Turn off the printer and then turn it on again.
If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.
Mass Storage
Operation Error!
Mass storage error
  • The file system becomes corrupted or a file is copied while a mass storage file is being processed. Turn off the printer and then turn it on again.
  • Do not access files on the printer during mass storage processing to avoid further problems.
Communication Error Communication error
BLF file error When sending a template as a .blf file, make sure that the model name in the file is correct and then transfer the data again.
Memory Full! Memory full error There is not enough internal memory available when you try to save a label file.
→ Delete any unnecessary files, and then print again.
ESC/P Memory full error The data size to send with the ESC/P command is too large.
Adjust the data and send it again.
JPEG file error Confirm the size of .jpg files, and then transfer the data again.
Invalid Database Record Database search error
  • There is no database with the specified number. Specify a correct number.
  • The search for a template with a linked database fails.
    → Search again.
  • An error will occur when printing a template which specifies an incorrect key code, or a non-existent key code in a linked database.
No Template Selected No template error
  • There is no template with the specified number. Specify a correct number.
  • When printing a template, an error is indicated if the specified template does not exist.
    → Select the correct template, and then print again.
  • The template was not transferred.
    → Register the template with the specified number to the printer.
ChargingError Cannot Charge Battery error (if the battery is not fully charged after the specified amount of time) The battery charging is incomplete despite continuous charging.
→ Confirm that the battery is correctly installed.
→ If charging still fails to complete, the battery may be deteriorated. Replace the battery with a new one.
Media Error!
Check Loading
Roll end error Replace the roll with a new one. If a sufficient amount of the roll remains, re-install it correctly.

Feed error
  • The roller is dirty. Clean the roller.
    → To learn how to clean the printer, see "How do I clean my printer?".
  • Check that the ejection path of the paper is not blocked.
  • Check that the roll is set correctly by removing the roll and installing it again.

  • Ensure that the roll compartment cover is closed correctly.
  • Check that the correct media, for example, type (die-cut label or continuous length tape) and die-cut label size, is installed
Batt.VeryPoor
Replace battery
Battery deterioration error The battery is badly deteriorated. Replace the battery with a new one.
WPS did not connect 1
Try to connect again
WPS connection error (Wireless LAN models only) The Wi-Fi® access point/router could not be found.
→ Try to connect again.
WPS did not connect 2
Try to connect again
WPS connection error (Wireless LAN models only) The Wi-Fi access point/router for establishing a connection could not be specified.
→ Confirm the WPS setting environment (distance between the access point and the printer, presence of obstructions, and so on) for the access point, and then configure the WPS settings for the printer again.
Clock Not Set Set clock error The printer has not received the time automatically or manually since it turned on, or the printer does not have the time information but is trying to print the template with a time and date object.
High Temp! High temperature error Printer temperature is too high.
When Linerless rolls setting is active and the printer overheats, the error message is displayed.
→ Wait until the printer cools down and resume operating the printer.
Print Data Too Large Print data size error
  • The printer receives the print data beyond the max. print length (= max. print data size of one print job).
  • Print jobs exceeding 3 m (118.1 in.) and incompatible files cannot be printed.
Flashing in redFlashing in orangeFlashing in green

Printing (optional) Peeler error If the sensor of the label peeler has been exposed to direct sunlight, loaded media may not be detected correctly.
→ Use the printer in a location not exposed to direct sunlight.
