I'm having problems sending a fax overseas.
If you are having difficulty sending a fax overseas due to possible interference on the telephone line, setting your Brother machine's Compatibility to Basic may help.
To change your Brother machine's Compatibility setting, follow these steps:
- Press Menu.
- Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Initial Setup.
- Press OK.
- Press the Up or Down arrow keyto choose Compatibility.
- Press OK.
- Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Basic (for VoIP).
- Press OK.

Press Stop/Exit.
When you change the Compatibility to Basic (for VoIP), Error Correction Mode (ECM) is only available for color fax sending.
If you are still having problems sending overseas after setting Compatibility to Basic (for VoIP), try turning on your Brother machine's Overseas Mode.
Overseas Mode is a temporary setting, and will only be active for the next fax you send.
To turn Overseas Mode on, follow these steps:

Do one of the following:

Place the document(s) you want to send into the Automatic Document Feeder(ADF) face down, top edge first until you feel it touch the roller.
After you put your documents(s) in the ADF, the machine's LCD should briefly display ADF Ready.
- Place the document you want to send face down on the flat scanner glass.

Place the document(s) you want to send into the Automatic Document Feeder(ADF) face down, top edge first until you feel it touch the roller.
- Press (FAX).
- Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Advanced Settings.
- Press OK.
- Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Overseas Mode.
- Press OK.
- Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose On.
- Press OK.
- Press Clear.
- Enter the fax number you want to send to.

Do one of the following:
- Press the Black Start key to send a black and white fax.
- Press the Color Start key to send a color fax.
