FAQs & Troubleshooting |
How do I thread my machine (Threading the upper thread)?
- The machine is marked with numbers that indicate the threading order. Follow the numbers in order.
- Be sure to thread the machine properly. Improper threading can cause the thread to tangle and break the needle, leading to injury.
- When using accessories not included with this machine, attach the accessory to the machine after threading the machine.
- Never use the thread of No. 20 or lower.
-
Turn on the machine.
-
Press the "Presser Foot Lifter" button to raise the presser foot.
The upper thread shutter opens so the machine can be threaded.Upper thread shutter
This machine is equipped with an upper thread shutter, allowing you to check that the upper threading is performed correctly.
-
Press the "Needle Position" button to raise the needle.
If you try to thread the needle with the needle threader lever without raising it, damage to the machine may result.
-
Pick up the spool pin and remove the spool cap that is inserted onto the spool pin.

-
Place the spool of thread onto the spool pin.
Slide the spool onto the pin so that the spool is horizontal and the thread unwinds to the front at the bottom.
-
Slide the spool cap onto the spool pin and return the spool pin to its original position.
Slide the spool cap as far as possible to the right as shown, with the rounded side on the left.
- If the thread spool and/or spool cap are set incorrectly, the thread may tangle on the spool pin and cause the needle to break.
- Use the spool cap (large, medium, or small) that is closest in size to the thread spool. If a spool cap smaller than the thread spool is used, the thread may become caught in the slit on the end of the spool and cause the needle to break.
-
When sewing with fine, cross-wound thread, use the small spool cap, and leave a small space between the cap and the thread spool.

While holding the thread from the spool with both hands, pull the thread through the lower notch in the thread guide plate, then through the upper notch.
Lower notch in the thread guide plate
Upper notch in the thread guide plateWhen passing the thread through the lower notch in the thread guide plate, then through the upper notch, be sure to use both hands. If you do not hold the thread with your right hand, the thread will be loose and you cannot hang the thread on the thread guide plate correctly. It may cause incorrect thread tension.
-
While holding the thread from the spool in your right hand, hold the end of the thread with your left hand, and then guide the thread through the groove, following the arrows in the illustration.
-
Pass the thread through the guides in the order shown below.
Upper thread shutter Look through the take-up lever check window to check the position of the take-up lever. Before threading the machine, make sure that the take-up lever is in the raised position.
Make sure that the thread is passed into the thread take-up lever as shown below.Upper thread shutter

Pass the thread behind the needle bar thread guide.
The thread can easily be passed behind the needle bar thread guide by holding the thread in your left hand, then feeding the thread with your right hand, as shown.Needle bar thread guide
