FAQs & Troubleshooting |
The material to be cut is not cleanly cut.
When the material to be cut is not cleanly cut, check the following problem and perform the necessary operation according to each solution.
Problem 1 :The entire pattern cannot be cut. Not all of the material to be cut is cut. Some areas remain uncut.
Problem 2 :There are deep cuts completely through the mat, or cut through the mat.
Problem 3 :The material being cut catches on the tip of the cutting blade.
Problem 4 :The machine stopped while an operation is being performed, and an error message was appeared.
Problem 5 :Thick or hard material cannot be cut.
Problem 6 :Fabric cannot be cut.
Problem 7 :The pattern with sharp corner or intricate pattern cannot be cut.
Problem 8 :The cut lines are shifted or the pattern you want to cut is not cut.
Problem 1 : The entire pattern cannot be cut. / Some areas remain uncut.
Solution 1
Check that the material being cut is compatible with this machine. Check that an appropriate blade for the material being cut is used.
For details on the compatible material or the appropriate blade, refer to Mat, Cutting Blade and Material Combinations.
Solution 2
The cutting pressure may be too light.
Touch in the settings screen once to increase the cut pressure, and then try again.
Before making your project, perform test/trial cut with the same material.
For details, refer to How do I perform trial cutting? (Test Cut) .
Be careful not to increase the pressure too much. Otherwise, the blade may break. If the pressure is too strong, the material may not be cut cleanly. In addition, the blade may be cut through the mat or may cause decrease in adhesive strength.
Solution 3
Check that the Half Cut setting is OFF.
Solution 4
Change the Cut Amount setting from 1.0mm each to 0.5mm each, and try again. It may be possible to improve performance and for best results on thick or harder material adjust the cutting depth to 0.5mm. The Cut Amount is the depth of the cut in each pass. This allows the machine to cut less material each pass for a cleaner cut.
Solution 5
The patterns may not be cleanly cut if the pattern spacing is too small.
Change Pattern Interval setting to more than 3, or change pattern arrangement by using the auto layout function.

Solution 6
Check that the material is placed within the cutting area (grid area) on the adhesive side.
Do not attach any material over the scanning marks in the illustration below. Otherwise, a mat may not be correctly recognized or a pattern cannot be cut cleanly. Place the material within the cutting area (grid area) on the adhesive side.

Solution 7
Is the tape affixed to the part surrounded marked with blue in the figure below?
The machine may not detect the thickness of the material correctly and may not cut.
If tape is affixed, affix it in a place other than that.
Solution 8
Check that the blade is loose. If it is loose, turn the cap to the right to tight it securely.
Solution 9
If material cuttings, lint or dust accumulate in the holder, it may not operate correctly.
Clean the holder after every use.
For details, refer to Care and Maintenance (Cleaning the Holder) and Care and Maintenance (Cleaning Inside the Machine).
【 If a material still cannot be cut cleanly even though you tried the above operation 】
- The blade may be worn. Replace the blade with a new one.
- The mat’s adhesive strength may have been decreased, or the material is not secured properly. Replace the mat with a new one.
Problem 2 : There are deep cuts completely through the mat or cut through the mat.
Solution 1
The cutting pressure may be too strong. Touch in the settings screen once to decrease the cut pressure, and then try again. Before making your project, perform test/trial cut with the same material.
For details, refer to How do I perform trial cutting? (Test Cut).
Problem 3 : The material being cut catches on the tip of the cutting blade.
Solution 1
Attach a material to the mat firmly.
If a material was shifted from a mat, secure it to the mat with a masking tape, firmly. Securing a material to a mat with a masking tape, it is possible to prevent the material from shifting from the mat. Do not affix masking tape, etc., over the scanning marks. Otherwise, the mat may not be correctly recognized or images may not be correctly scanned.

Solution 2
If material cuttings, lint or dust accumulate in the holder, it may not operate correctly.
Clean the holder and inside the machine after every use.
For details on how to clean, refer to Care and Maintenance (Cleaning the Holder) and Care and Maintenance (Cleaning Inside the Machine).
Solution 3
Check that the material being cut is compatible with this machine.
For details on the compatible material, refer to Mat, Cutting Blade and Material Combinations.
Solution 4
The blade may be worn. Replace the blade with a new one.
Problem 4 : The machine stopped while an operation is being performed, and an error message appeared.
Perform the necessary operation according to the instructions in the message or refer to Error Messages section.
Problem 5 : Thick or hard material cannot be cut.
If the material shifted from the mat, secure it to the mat with a masking tape, firmly.
Securing the material to the mat with masking tape, this helps to prevent the material from shifting off the mat. Do not affix the masking tape or similar item, over the scanning marks. This may cause the mat to not be recognized in the machine or images may not be correctly scanned.

Problem 6 : Fabric cannot be cut.
Use a fusible sheet/material for fabric cutting such as Iron-On Fabric applique contact sheet (white backing) and the high tack fabric support sheet on the mat. For details, refer to Mat, Cutting Blade and Material Combinations.
Use a Thin Fabric Auto Blade (Beige) when cutting a thin cotton fabric or flannel for quilt piece.
Included accessories may vary depending on the machine model. Required accessories not included with the machine may be purchased separately.
Problem 7 : The pattern with sharp corner or intricate pattern cannot be cut.
Solution 1
When a pattern with sharp corner or an intricate pattern cut, it may be possible to cut cleanly by slowing the cut speed. Decrease Cut Speed setting, and try again.
Solution 2
Enlarging the size of a pattern may be possible to cut cleanly.
When cutting a small pattern or a fine pattern, enlarge the pattern and try again.
Problem 8 : The cut line is misaligned or cannot cut correctly.
【 If a material still cannot be cut cleanly even though you tried the above operation 】
-
The mat’s adhesive strength may have been decreased, or the material is not secured properly. Replace the mat with a new one.
- The blade may be worn. Replace the blade with a new one.
