How do I store numbers on my fax machine for easy dialing? (One-Touch, Speed Dial)
You can set your Brother machine to do two types of easy dialing: One-Touch Dialing and Speed Dialing. If you lose electrical power, auto-dial numbers stored in memory will not be lost.
Storing One-Touch Dial numbers:
You can store twenty fax or telephone numbers on your Brother machine's One-Touch keys, which can then be dialed simply by pressing the appropriate One-Touch key followed by the Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start key. You can also store names with these numbers. When you dial a One-Touch number, the Brother machine's LCD displays the name or number as the call is dialed.
One-Touch keys are not the dial pad keys. They are the eight keys (labeled 1/9 - 8/16) located on the left of the control panel.
To store One-Touch numbers, please follow these steps:
- Press Menu/Set, 2 (Fax), 3 (Set Quick-Dial), 1 (One-Touch Dial).
- Press the One-Touch key where you wish to store the number. The LCD shows the number you selected.
To access numbers 9 through 16, hold down the Shift key as you press the appropriate One-Touch key.
- Press Menu/Set to select "Fax/Tel".
- Enter the number you want to store (up to 20 digits) and press Menu/Set.
If you want to enter a pause in the dialing sequence (to wait for an outside line, for example), press Redial/Pause as you're entering digits. Pressing Redial/Pause enters a 3.5-second pause when the number is dialed, and a dash appears on the screen.
- Use the dial pad to enter the name or company name (up to 15 characters) and press Menu/Set. If you want to store the number without a name, just press Menu/Set.
- Return to STEP 2 to store another One-Touch number or press the Stop/Exit key to exit the menu.
Storing Speed Dial numbers:
Speed Dial numbers are stored as three-digit locations on the dial pad of your Brother machine. Once you have designated a number to a Speed Dial location, said number can be dialed by pressing Search/Speed Dial, # (pound sign), the three-digit Speed Dial number, then the Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start key. The Brother machine can store 200 Speed Dial numbers. To store Speed Dial numbers, please follow these steps:
- Press Menu/Set, 2 (Fax), 3 (Set Quick-Dial), 2 (Speed-Dial).
- Use the dial pad to select the three-digit location (001 – 200) on which you want to store the number and press Menu/Set.
- Return to STEP 2 to store another Speed Dial number or press the Stop/Exit key to exit the menu.
Changing One-Touch and Speed Dial numbers
If you try to store a One-Touch or Speed Dial number in a location where a number has already been stored, the screen displays the name or number currently stored there, then prompts you to either "1. Change or 2. Exit"
- Press 1 to change the number stored, or press 2 to exit without making a change.
- Enter a new number.
- If you want to erase the whole number, press the Stop/Exit key when the cursor is to the left of the digits. Everything above and to the right of the cursor is deleted.
- If you want to change a digit, press the Left or Right Arrow key to position the cursor under the digit you want to change, then type over it.
- If you want to erase the whole number, press the Stop/Exit key when the cursor is to the left of the digits. Everything above and to the right of the cursor is deleted.
