Preview the faxes I receive before I print them.

The Fax Preview feature allows you to preview received faxes on your Brother machine's LCD by pressing the FAX PREVIEW key.


When Fax Preview is turned on, a message will appear on the LCD of the Brother machine alerting you when you receive new faxes.


TURNING FAX PREVIEW ON

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.
  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press 1 to choose Yes.

    Your Brother machine's LCD asks you to verify that your faxes will not be printed.

  3. Press 1 to choose OK.

<For touchscreen models>
  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press Yes.

    Your Brother machine's LCD asks you to verify that your faxes will not be printed.

  3. Press Yes.

  4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
  • Color faxes will be stored in your Brother machine's memory ONLY if you have chosen B&W (Max.LGR) as your Receiving Priority setting.

  • When Fax Preview is turned on, your Brother machine will NOT print backup copies of your faxes even if the Backup Print feature is on.

  • Fax Preview is not available when Fax Forwarding is turned on.

 

USING FAX PREVIEW

A message will appear on the LCD of the Brother machine alerting you when you receive new faxes.


- For example: New Fax(es): 02.

When this message appears, follow these steps to preview a fax:

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.
  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key to view the new fax list.

    • You can also see your old fax list by pressing the * (Asterisk) key. Press the # (Pound Sign) key to return to your new fax list.

    • (Not available for MFC-5890CN and MFC-5895CW)
      If you receive a fax containing multiple paper sizes (for example, a page of A4 data and a page of A3 data), the machine may create and store a file for each paper size. The LCD may show that more than one fax job has been received.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose the fax you want to see.

  3. Press the OK key.

    • If the fax you chosen is large, then there may be a delay before it appears on the LCD.

    • The LCD will show the current page number and total page number for the fax you chosen.

    • If the fax you chosen is over 99 pages, the total page number will be listed as XX.

  4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

    When you are previewing an individual fax, the control panel keys will perform the operations listed below:

    • * (Asterisk): Enlarge the fax.

    • # (Pound Sign): Reduce the fax.

    • UP OR DOWN ARROW: Scroll the fax vertically.

    • LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW: Scroll the fax horizontally.

    • 0: Rotate the fax clockwise.

    • 2: Delete the fax. You must then confirm this deletion by pressing 1.

    • 7: Go back to the previous page.

    • 9: Go to the next page.

    • OK: Go to the next step. You can choose Print, Back or Exit.

    • CLEAR or CLEAR/BACK: Go back to the fax list.

    • BLACK (MONO) START: Print the fax.

      Do one of the following:
      • Press 1 to print the whole message.

      • Press 2 to print only the displayed page.

      • Press 3 to print from the displayed page to the last page.

        (After printing, you can choose to delete or print the fax.)

<For touchscreen models>
  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key to view the new fax list.

    • You can also see your old fax list by pressing the Old Fax tab on the touchscreen. Press the New Fax tab to return to your new fax list.

    • If you receive a fax containing multiple paper sizes (for example, a page of A4 data and a page of A3 data), the machine may create and store a file for each paper size. The LCD may show that more than one fax job has been received.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to choose the fax you want to see.

  3. Press the fax you want to see.

    • If the fax you chosen is large, then there may be a delay before it appears on the LCD.

    • The LCD will show the current page number and total page number for the fax you chosen.

    • If the fax you chosen is over 99 pages, the total page number will be listed as XX.

  4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

    When you are previewing an individual fax, the control panel keys will perform the operations listed below:

    • Image01 : Enlarge the fax.

    • Image02 : Reduce the fax.

    • UP OR DOWN ARROW: Scroll the fax vertically.

    • LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW: Scroll the fax horizontally.

    • Image03 : Rotate the fax clockwise.

    • Image04 : Delete the fax. You must then confirm this deletion by pressing Yes.

    • Image05 : Go back to the previous page.

    • Image06 : Go to the next page.

    • Image07 : Go back to the fax list.

    • Image08 : Print the fax.

      Do one of the following:
      • Press Print All Pages to print the whole message.

      • Press Print Displayed Only to print only the displayed page.

      • Press Print From Displayed to print from the displayed page to the last page.

    • Image09 : Close the preview table.

 

DELETING ALL FAXES IN THE LIST

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.
  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Delete All.

  3. Press the OK key.

  4. Press the 1 key to confirm.

  5. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

<For touchscreen models>

  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press More.

  3. Press Delete All.

  4. Press Yes to confirm.

  5. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

 

PRINTING ALL FAXES IN THE LIST

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Print All.

  3. Press the OK key.

    Your Brother machine will print the faxes.

  4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

<For touchscreen models>

  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press More.

  3. Press Print All.

  4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

 

TURNING FAX PREVIEW OFF

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Fax Preview –> Off.

  3. Press the OK key.

    Your Brother machine's LCD will ask you the following question:

    Turn off Fax Preview and print all future incoming faxes?

    Yes –> Press 1

    No –> Press 2


  4. Press 1 to choose Yes.

    Your Brother machine's LCD will display the following message:

    Continue –> 1

    Print all faxes –> 2

    Cancel –> 3


  5. Do one of the following:

    • Press 1 to turn off Fax Preview without printing your stored faxes. Go to STEP 6.

    • Press 2 to print all your stored faxes before turning off Fax Preview. Go to STEP 7.

    • Press 3 to exit the menu without turning off Fax Preview. Go to STEP 7.


  6. Press 1 to confirm that you want to delete all of your stored faxes.

  7. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

<For touchscreen models>

  1. Press the FAX PREVIEW key.

  2. Press More.

  3. Press Turn Off Fax Preview.

  4. Press Yes to confirm.

    Your Brother machine's LCD will display the following message:

    Continue

    Print all faxes

    Cancel


  5. Do one of the following:

    • Press Continue to turn off Fax Preview without printing your stored faxes. Go to STEP 6.

    • Press Print all faxes to print all your stored faxes before turning off Fax Preview. Go to STEP 7.

    • Press Cancel to exit the menu without turning off Fax Preview. Go to STEP 7.


  6. Press Yes to confirm that you want to delete all of your stored faxes.

  7. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
