What do the indicator lights mean?

The indicator light and blink to indicate the printer's status. The following symbols are used in this FAQ to explain the meaning of the different indicator colors and patterns.

green is lit or orange is lit or red is lit
Indicator is lit in the color shown
green is flashing or orange is flashing or red is flashing
Indicator is flashing in the color shown
Off
Indicator is off
Status LED Condition Solution
Off Power is off -
green is lit Power is ON -
Idle mode
Feed mode
Printing mode
Cutting mode
Self checking mode
Printing printer settings mode (For QL-580N only)
green is flashing
(Once every 0.8 second)
Transferring data -
Printing mode (Receiving Data)
Printing printer settings mode(Creating Data) (For QL-580N only)
orange is lit The DK Roll Compartment Cover is open. Close the DK Roll Compartment Cover correctly.

orange is flashing
(Once every 0.8 second)
Cooling mode Wait approximately 10 minutes, and then try printing again.
red is lit Boot mode Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.
Reset mode -
red is flashing
(Once every 0.4 second)
Label sensor error Replace the DK Roll with a new one. If a sufficient amount of the roll remains, re-install it correctly. (Make sure the paper passes through under the sensor.)

Incorrect DK Roll installed Install the correct DK Roll and then close the DK Roll Compartment Cover correctly.

Transmission error Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.
Cover open error Close the DK Roll Compartment Cover correctly and then, restart the printing.
Cutter error If the cutter error occurs, keep the DK roll compartment cover closed and press ON/OFF button. The cutter moves back to the normal position and turns the machine OFF automatically. After the machine is OFF, inspect the cutter unit and remove the paper jam.
If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.
System error Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.
