How can I connect the printer to my mobile device via Wi-Fi®?

Connecting your printer and a mobile device using a Wi-Fi access point/ router (infrastructure mode)

Write down the SSID (Network Name) and Password (Network Key) of your Wi-Fi access point/router.

On the printer, press the Menu/ (Select) button to select the [WLAN] menu, and then press the (Feed) / OK button. Set [On/Off] to [On].
- Connect the printer and computer using a USB cable.

Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer, and click Communication Settings.
- You can download the Printer Setting Tool from the [Downloads] section of this website.
- To use the Printer Setting Tool, you also need to install the Printer Driver.

Select Wireless LAN for Selected Interface in the General tab, and select Infrastructure for Communication Mode in Wireless Settings in the Wireless LAN tab.
You can also specify the settings from the printer's LCD menu.
- On the printer, press the Menu /(Select) button to select the [WLAN] menu, and then press the (Feed) / OK button.
- Press the Menu /(Select) button to select the [Mode] menu, and then press the (Feed) / OK button.
- Select [Infrastructure], and then press the (Feed) / OK button.

Select Wireless Settings in the Wireless LAN tab.
Enter the SSID that you wrote down, or click Search and select the SSID from the displayed list.

Enter the password as Passphrase.
The required information depends on the authentication method and encryption mode; enter only the information relevant to your network environment.

Click Apply.
When the connection between the printer and your Wi-Fi access point/router is established, the (Wi-Fi) icon appears on the printer's LCD. Computers and mobile devices that are on the same network as the printer will have access to the printer.- To change any other network settings, use the Printer Setting Tool. For more information, see "Using the Printer Setting Tool (for Windows)".
- To connect your mobile device to the Wi-Fi access point/router, select the SSID and enter the password of the Wi-Fi access point/router to establish the connection between the mobile device and Wi-Fi access point/router.
Connecting your printer and a mobile device using Wireless Direct
Using this method, the printer serves as a wireless network access point.
- Connect the printer and computer using a USB cable.
- Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer, and click Communication Settings.

Confirm that Wireless Direct is selected for Selected Interface in the General tab.
You can also specify the settings from the printer's LCD menu.
- On your printer, press the Menu /(Select) button to select the [WLAN] menu, and then press the (Feed) / OK button.
- Press the Menu /(Select) button to select the [Mode] menu, and then press the (Feed) / OK button.
- Select [Direct], and then press the (Feed) / OK button. The (Wireless Direct) icon appears on the printer's LCD.
- On the printer, press the Menu /(Select) button to select the [WLAN] menu, and then press the (Feed) / OK button. Set [On/Off] to [On].

Use your mobile device to select the SSID of the printer. If required, enter the Password.

The factory default SSID and password are as follows:
SSID: "DIRECT-*****_RJ-3250WB" where *****is the last five digits of the serial number.
Password: "325*****" where *****is the last five digits of the serial number. - The serial number label is located on the base of the printer. You can also confirm the serial number by printing the printer information. For more information, see "Where can I find my Brother printer's serial number?".
- We recommend setting a new Wireless Direct password using the Printer Setting Tool to protect your printer from unauthorized access.
- The Printer Setting Tool also allows you to apply the network settings to multiple printers.
- You cannot connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi while using Wireless Direct. To use the Internet, connect using a Wi-Fi access point/router (Infrastructure Mode).
