FAQs & Troubleshooting

Scan a fax into my Brother machine while it is sending a fax from memory, receiving a fax, or printing a document from my computer.

Your Brother machine has Dual Access capabilities.

You can dial a fax number and start scanning a fax into the Brother machine's memory, even when the machine is sending a fax from memory, receiving faxes, or printing documents from a computer. The Brother machine's LCD will display the new job number and available memory.

You can scan up to 50 documents into the machine, but the number of pages you can scan into the memory will vary depending on the data that is printed on them.

If you try to scan and store a 51st fax, the machine will send it immediately without storing it in memory.

If the "Out of Memory" message appears while your Brother machine is scanning a document, press the STOP/EXIT key to cancel the transmission or press the FAX START key to send the scanned pages.

To use Dual Access, follow these steps:

  1. Place the document you want to scan face down in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

  2. Enter the fax number you want to send to.

  3. Press the FAX START key.

As the machine scans the document, the LCD displays the fax job number and the amount of available memory.

After the machine scans the document, it will start dialing the number you entered. You can immediately repeat STEPS 1 through 3 to scan the next document you want to fax.
The machine normally operates in Dual Access mode, but you can override Dual Access by using Real Time Transmission. For more information, please refer to "Can I send a fax without scanning the documents into memory?".
