FAQs & Troubleshooting

My Brother machine is dialing the wrong number or is not dialing the number I entered or I receive a busy signal or recording when trying to send faxes.

If your Brother machine consistently dials numbers other than the ones you have entered or you receive a busy signal or recording when trying to send faxes, you may have programmed a Dial Prefix on the machine. The Dial Prefix is a feature that automatically dials a user-defined number before every fax you send.

For example, if your telephone system requires you to dial 9 to access an outside line, then you can program the Dial Prefix feature to automatically dial 9 every time you send a fax.

To change or delete the prefix number programmed in your Brother machine follow these steps:

  1. Press the MENU key.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Initial Setup.

  3. Press the OK key.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Dial Prefix.

  5. Press the OK key.

  6. Press 1 to choose Change.

  7. Press the Clear/Back or Clear key to delete the prefix number displayed on the LCD.

  8. Do one of the following:

If you want to enter a new prefix number (up to 5 digits) and press the OK key.

    OR

If you do not want to enter a prefix number press the OK key.

  9. Press STOP/EXIT.
