FAQs & Troubleshooting

Change or delete an existing One Touch or Speed Dial number.

The instruction varies depending on whether the Internet FAX is available or whether the machine is configured for the Internet Fax if applicable.

SECTION A: CHANGING OR DELETING ONE TOUCH NAMES OR NUMBERS

If you try to store a One-Touch number in a location where a number has already been stored, the LCD displays the number currently stored there.

You can change or delete an existing One Touch name, number or email address by following these steps:


  1. Press MENU and choose Fax => Address Book => One Touch Dial.

  2. Press the ONE TOUCH key you want to change or delete.

    Your Brother machine's LCD will display the name or number stored at that One Touch location with the message "1. Change 2. Clear."
To access numbers 5 through 8, hold the SHIFT key and press the appropriate One-Touch key.
  1. Do one of the following:

    • To delete the stored number, follow these steps:

      1. Press 2 to choose Clear. The LCD will display "Erase This Data?".

      2. Press 1 to choose Yes, and go to STEP 9.

    • To change the stored name or number, press 1 to choose Change.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If the LCD asks to choose the type of number you are storing (for example, "Fax/Tel"), please see the Related FAQ's.

    • If you want to keep the current number, go to STEP 5.

    • If you want to edit the current number, use the dial pad to edit or enter a fax or telephone number.

      The number can be up to 20 digits long.

      You can use the REDIAL/PAUSE key to insert a 3.5-second (for UK: 2.8-second) pause in the stored number.

      You can enter multiple pauses by repeatedly pressing the REDIAL/PAUSE key.

To edit the stored number, press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor on the character you want to change, press the CLEAR key, and enter the correct character.
  1. Press the OK key.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If you want to keep the current name, go to STEP 7.

    • If you want to erase one character, follow these steps:

      1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor under the character you want to delete.

      2. Press the CLEAR key to delete the character, and enter the correct character.

        You can press the CLEAR key repeatedly to erase multiple characters.

    • If you want to insert a character, follow these steps:

      1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor where you want to insert a new character.

      2. Type the character you want to insert.

  3. Press the OK key.

  4. (This step might be skipped in some models.)
    Do one of the following:

    • If you want to keep the current fax/scan resolution, press the OK key.

    • If you want to save a fax/scan resolution along with the number, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose STD, FINE, S. FINE, or PHOTO. Press the OK key.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • To change or delete another One Touch number, repeat STEPS 2 through 8.

    • To finish changing or deleting one touch names or numbers, press the STOP/EXIT key.


SECTION B: CHANGING OR DELETING SPEED DIAL NAMES OR NUMBERS

If you try to store a Speed Dial number in a location where a number has already been stored, the LCD displays the number currently stored there.

You can change or delete an existing Speed Dial name or number by following these steps:


  1. Press MENU and choose Fax => Address Book => Speed Dial.

  2. Use the dial pad to choose the three-digit (001 – 200) Speed Dial number. Press the OK key.

    Your Brother machine's LCD will display the name or number stored at that Speed Dial location with the message "1. Change 2. Clear."

  3. Do one of the following:

    • To delete the stored number, follow these steps:

      1. Press 2 to choose Clear. The LCD will display "Erase This Data?".

      2. Press 1 to choose Yes, and go to STEP 9.

    • To change the stored name or number, press 1 to choose Change.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • If the LCD asks to choose the type of number you are storing (for example, "Fax/Tel"), please see the Related FAQ's.

    • If you want to keep the current number, go to STEP 5.

    • If you want to edit the current number, use the dial pad to edit or enter a fax or telephone number.

      The number can be up to 20 digits long.

      2. Press the CLEAR key to delete the character, and enter the correct character.

        You can press the CLEAR key repeatedly to erase multiple characters.

    • If you want to insert a character, follow these steps:

      1. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to position the cursor where you want to insert a new character.

      2. Type the character you want to insert.

  3. Press the OK key.

  4. (This step might be skipped in some models.)
    Do one of the following:

    • If you want to keep the current fax/scan resolution, press the OK key.

    • If you want to save a fax/scan resolution along with the number, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose STD, FINE, S. FINE, or PHOTO. Press the OK key.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • To change or delete another Speed Dial number, repeat STEPS 2 through 8.

    • To finish changing or deleting speed dial names or numbers, press the STOP/EXIT key.
