What do the indicator lights mean?

The indicators light and blink to indicate the printer's status.  The following symbols are used in this FAQ to explain the meaning of the different indicator colors and patterns.

green is lit / orange  is lit / red  is lit
Indicator is lit in the color shown
green is flashing / orange  is flashing / red  is flashing
Indicator is flashing in the color shown
Off
Indicator is off
Power LED Condition Solution
green is lit
  • The printer is connected via Bluetooth®.
  • The tape is feeding.
  • The tape is cutting.
  • Printing
-
green is flashing
(Once every 0.5 sec.)
  • The unit is receiving data from your smartphone, tablet or computer.
  • Transferring program
-
green is flashing
(Lit for 3 sec. ->
Off for 1 sec.)
Ready For Android™ users :
If the LED light flashes in green even after the connection between the printer and the mobile device is completed, check the following.

 

  1. Does the LED light flash while the printer and the mobile device are connected?
    ->The LED light stops blinking and remains lit when printing starts.  
     
  2. Is the printer and the mobile device connected correctly?
    ->To see how to connect the printer and the mobile device, refer to the FAQ: "How can I connect my mobile device to the printer? (P-touch Design&Print / Design&Print 2)".
orange  is lit Initializing mode -
orange  is flashing
(Once every 0.5 sec.)
Cooling mode -
red  is flashing
(2 times in 1 sec. →
Off for 1 sec.)
Li-ion battery error
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Make sure the insulation sheet has been removed and charge the Li-ion battery.
    For details for charging the battery, see the FAQ: "How do I charge the Li-ion battery?".
  3. If the problem still occurs, change the Li-ion battery to a new one.
red  is flashing
(Once every 1 sec.)
Li-ion batteries are almost out of power.
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Make sure the insulation sheet has been removed and charge the Li-ion battery.
    For details for charging the battery, see the FAQ: "How do I charge the Li-ion battery?".
  • No tape error
  • Wrong tape error
  • Non-compliant tape error
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Install a compatible tape cassette.
High temperature error
  1. Press the power button.
  2. The LED light starts flashing in orange once every 0.5 seconds and the printer enters the Cooling mode. Wait until the LED light starts flashing in green.
  3. Make sure the LED light is flashing in green and the printer is ready, and then try to print again.
Communication error
  1. Turn off the printer and then turn it on again.
  2. For mobile device:
    Connect to the printer via Bluetooth.
    For details, see the FAQ: "How can I connect my mobile device to the printer? (P-touch Design&Print / Design&Print 2)".
    For computer:
    Disconnect the USB device and connect it again or change the USB port.
    For details, see the FAQ: "How do I connect the printer to my computer using a USB cable?".
Cutter error

Turn off the printer and then turn it on again.

For details, see the FAQ: "The printer stops printing, the power LED blinks in red, and my mobile device displays an error message.".

red  is lit Program Transfer error Transfer the program again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.
red  is flashing
(Once every 0.3 sec.)
System error
  • Contact Brother Customer Service.
  • The flashing pattern of the LED light may change by pressing the power button. To resolove this issue, contact Brother Customer Service.

 

Battery LED Condition Solution
Off Charging complete -
orange  is lit Charging -
orange  is flashing
(Off for 3 sec. ->
Lit for 0.5 sec.)
Li-ion battery power: half -
orange  is flashing
(Off for 2 sec. ->
Flash for 2 times.)
Li-ion battery power: low -
orange  is flashing
(Once every 0.5 sec.)
  • Li-ion batteries are almost out of power.
  • Li-ion battery error
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Make sure the insulation sheet has been removed and charge the Li-ion battery.

  3. If the problem still occurs, change the Li-ion battery to a new one.
