Can I remotely access my Brother machine to listen to my voice messages and forward my faxes to another machine?
You can call your Brother machine from any touch-tone telephone or fax machine, then use the Remote Access Code and remote commands to retrieve your faxes.
Setting a Remote Access Code
Before you can use your Brother machine's Remote Retrieval feature, you must program your own Remote Access Code. The factory default code is the inactive code ---*.
To set up a Remote Access Code, follow these steps:

Press MENU/SET and choose Fax => Remote Fax Opt => Remote Access.

Use the dial pad to enter a three-digit code.

The code can be any number from 000 to 999.

You cannot change the preset *.
- Do not use the Fax Receive Code (*51, *91 for New Zealand) or your Telephone Answer Code (#51, #91 for New Zealand).

Press the MENU/SET key.
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.

You can change your Remote Access Code at any time by entering a new one.
- To make the Remote Access Code inactive, press the STOP/EXIT key in STEP 2 to restore the default, inactive code ---*.
Using your Remote Access Code

Dial your fax number from a touch tone telephone or another fax machine.

When your Brother machine answers, enter your Remote Access Code.
Your Remote Access Code is the three digit code you chosen followed by *.

Your Brother machine will signal if it has received messages:
-
1 long beep: fax messages
-
2 long beeps: voice messages
-
3 long beeps: fax and voice messages
- No beeps: no messages

1 long beep: fax messages

When your Brother machine gives two short beeps, enter a command:

The machine will hang up if you wait longer than 30 seconds to enter a command.
- The machine will beep three times if you enter an invalid command.

The machine will hang up if you wait longer than 30 seconds to enter a command.

Press 9, 0 to stop Remote Access when you are finished.
- Hang up the telephone.
Remote Fax Commands
Follow the commands below to access feature when you are away from your Brother machine. When you call your Brother machine and enter your Remote Access Code, the machine will produce two short beeps and you must enter a Remote Fax Command.

If you hear one long beep, the erase is accepted. If you hear three short beeps, you cannot erase because all voice messages have note been played, or there are no voice message to erase. NOTE: This code erases all recorded messages, not one at a time. |

If you hear one long beep, the change has been accepted. If you hear three short beeps, you cannot change it because something has not been set up (for example, perhaps a Fax Forwarding or paging number had not been registered). You can register your Fax Forwarding number by entering 4. (See Changing your Fax Forwarding number). Once you have registered the number, Fax Forwarding will work. You can choose Off after you have retrieved or erased all your messages. |

To remotely retrieve faxes, follow these steps:

Dial your fax number.

When your Brother machine answers, immediately enter your Remote Access Code.
If you hear one long beep, you have fax messages.

When you hear two short beeps, press 9, 6, 2.

Wait for the long beep, then use the dial pad to enter the number of the remote fax machine you want your faxes sent to.

The number can be up to 20 digits long.
- You cannot use * and # as dial numbers, but you can press # to enter a pause.

You cannot include * and # in the fax number, but you can press # to enter a pause in the fax number.
- Hang up after you hear your Brother machine beep. Your Brother machine will call the other fax machine, which will then print your faxes.
Changing your Fax Forwarding number
You can change the default setting of your Fax Forwarding number from another touch tone telephone or fax machine by following these steps:

Dial your fax number.

When your Brother machine answers, immediately enter your Remote Access Code.
If you hear one long beep, you have fax messages.

When you hear two short beeps, press 9, 5, 4.

When you hear the long beep, use the dial pad to enter the new number of the remote fax machine you want your Brother machine to forward your faxes to.

Press #, #.
You cannot include * and # in the fax number, but you can press # to enter a pause in the fax number.
- Hang up after you hear your Brother machine beep.
