FAQs & Troubleshooting

Turn the Toner Save Mode on or off.

You can save toner using this feature. When you set Toner Save Mode to On, print appears lighter.
The default setting is Off.

 

We do not recommend Toner Save Mode for printing Photo or Gray Scale images.

Method 1: Using the control panel

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to choose General Setup and press OK.
  3. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to choose Ecology and press OK.
  4. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to choose Toner Save and press OK.
  5. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to choose On or Off and press OK.
  6. Press Stop/Exit.

 

 

Method 2: Using the printer driver

 

For Windows users:
NOTE:The screens may differ depending on the operating system.


[Printer driver]

  1. Open Printing Preferences. (Click here to see how to open Printing Preferences.)

  2. Open the Advanced tab.

  3. Check on or off the "Toner Save Mode" check box. Click OK.

  1. Open Printing Preferences. (Click here to see how to open Printing Preferences.)

  2. Open the Layout tab and then click Advanced.

  3. Choose "Off" or "On" in the Toner Save of the Printer Features. Click OK.

For Macintosh users:

[Printer driver]

  1. Open Print dialog. (Click here to see the details of how to open Print dialog.)

  2. [Mac OS X 10.3.9 - 10.5.x users]

    1. Choose the "Print Settings" option from the pop-up menu.

    2. Click Basic and then check on or off the "Toner Save Mode" check box.

    [Mac OS X 10.6.x or later users]

    1. Choose the "Print Settings" option from the pop-up menu.

    2. Click Advanced triangle mark and then choose Toner Save Mode from the list box.

    3. Check on or off the "Toner Save Mode" check box.

  3. If you want to print with this setting only one time, click Print.
    If you want to print with this setting every time, please go on to the STEP 4.

  4. Choose "Save As..." or "Save Current Settings as Preset..." option in the Presets.

  5. Type the name of this setting in the newly opened dialogue. E.g. TonerSaveMode

  6. Click OK. Your customized setting will be saved and shown as the choices in the Presets.

  7. Choose your customized setting created in the STEP 4 - 6 and then click Print. The document will be printed out.

    If you want to print with the setting that Toner Save Mode is activated every time, please choose your customized setting created in the STEP 4 - 6 when printing.

 

[BR-Script printer driver]

  1. Open Print dialog. (Click here to see the details of how to open Print dialog.)

  2. [Mac OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4.x users]

    1. Choose the "Printer Features" option from the pop-up menu under the Presets.

    2. Choose the "Set 1" option from in the Feature Sets.

    3. Check on or off the "Toner Save" check box.

    [Mac OS X 10.5.x or later users]

    1. Choose "Printer Features" from the print options pop-up menu.

    2. Choose "General 1" in the Feature Sets.

    3. Check on or off the "Toner Save" check box.

  3. If you want to print with this setting only one time, click Print.
    If you want to print with this setting every time, please go on to the STEP 4.

  4. Choose "Save As..." or "Save Current Settings as Preset..." option in the Presets.

  5. Type the name of this setting in the newly opened dialog. E.g. TonerSaveMode

  6. Click OK. Your customized setting will be saved and shown as the choices in the Presets.

  7. Choose your customized setting created in the STEP 4 - 6 and then click Print. The document will be printed out.

    If you want to print with the setting that Toner Save Mode is activated every time, please choose your customized setting created in the STEP 4 - 6 when printing.
