[Causes and Solutions]

Tube, Label, Power indicator

Condition Cause Solution

Now cooling

The thermal head is too hot.
The printer stops and resumes printing only after the thermal head has cooled down.
The head may become too hot if you are printing a large number of labels.
When the thermal head becomes too hot, it may produce imaging on the labels in areas not intended to be printed.

This condition may occur more often when the printer is used at high altitude (more than 10,000 ft (3,048 m)) due to a lower air density available to cool the printer.

High temperature error.

To avoid or delay overheating, make sure the printer has adequate ventilation and is not located in an enclosed space.
Do not use the printer continuously or the print head will become too hot. In this case, the printer will stop and resume printing after the motor has cooled down.

Wait for approximately 5 minutes.

System error
-
Try turning the printer on and off.  If the error occurs again, contact your Brother dealer or Brother customer service for assistance.
USB host power supply

Label holder error The holder for label is not working
properly.
  • Remove the tape cassette and reinstall it correctly.
  • Try turning the printer on and off several times.

If the error occurs again, contact your Brother dealer or Brother customer service for assistance.

Tube holder error The holder for tube is not working properly.

Memory full error (Tube) The size of the data sent from the computer is different from the expected size or the data checksum is incorrect. Resend the data.  If the error occurs again, check the data because there may be a problem in the data.
Cutter error (Tube)

The tape cutter is closed when you try to print or feed tube.

This error also appears if the cutter does not operate correctly while cutting.

Try again to print.

If the error occurs again, turn the printer on and off.  If the problem remains unsolved, contact your Brother dealer or Brother customer service for assistance.
No tube error (Tube)
Media end error (Tube)

(Refer to "How to insert a tube".)
Top cover open error when printing (Tube) Appears when pushing the Print key with the cover opened. Close the cover completely.
No ribbon cassette error (Tube) Appears when printing with no ribbon cassette is installed.

Install the ribbon cassette.

(Refer to "How to insert a ribbon cassette".)

Ink ribbon jam error (Tube)
No remaining ink ribbon error (Tube)
Tube jam error (Tube)
Tube feeding problem (Tube)
  1. You have reached the end of the ribbon.
  2. The tube is jammed.
  3. If the printer cannot feed the tube correctly because the tube is twisted or the tube is caught on something outside of the printer, this error may occur.
  1. Check that there is enough ribbon remaining.
  2. Check that the tube is not jammed.

When the tube is jammed, the ribbon of the ribbon cassette will be damaged.  Because the ribbon may break if you use it in this condition, pull out approximately 3–5 cm of ribbon from the cassette and wind the damaged portion completely onto the spool.  You can use the ribbon to print starting from the portion that is not damaged.
  3. Check that the tube is not twisted and that the tube can be fed smoothly outside of the printer.  If it is twisted or caught on something, remove the tube from the printer and insert it again.
Memory full error (Label)
Communication error (Tube/Label)
The size of the data sent from the computer is different from the expected size or the data checksum is incorrect. Resend the data. If the error occurs again, check the data because there may be a problem in the data.
When blinking alternately :
Cutter error (Label)
When blinking simultaneously : High temperature error (Label)
  1. The tape cutter is closed when you try to print or feed tube.
This error also appears if the cutter does not operate correctly while cutting.

  2. The thermal head is too hot.
  1. Try again to print. If the problem remains unsolved after trying several times, contact your Brother dealer or Brother customer service for assistance.
  2. Wait 10 minutes and try again to print.

If the problem remains unsolved, turn the printer on and off.  If the problem remains unsolved, contact your Brother dealer or Brother customer service for assistance.
Non-compliant tape error (Label) When the user inserts the noncompliant tape. Install a compatible tape.
(Refer to "How to insert a tape cassette".)
