Toner Low
If Toner Low : X appears on the machine's display (hereinafter called LCD) you can still print; however, the machine is telling you that the toner cartridge is near the end of its life. (BK=Black, C=Cyan, M=Magenta, Y=Yellow). Order a new toner cartridge now so a replacement toner cartridge will be available when the LCD displays Replace Toner.
The Brother machine has separate consumables the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Verify you replace only the Toner Cartridge and not the drum unit. Click here to see information for the difference between the toner cartridge and the drum unit.
NOTE: We recommend using genuine Brother drum units and toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at a pre-set temperature that is matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each Brother component is designed to work with other Brother components to ensure quality and reliability. Although not all non-genuine supplies may cause quality issues, it is possible that some may adversely affect print quality or cause the machine to malfunction. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem or damage caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges, or toner.

If you believe the Toner Low: X message appeared too soon, consider the following:
- The toner cartridge that comes supplied with the machine are starter toner cartridges. The yield of the starter toner cartridge depends on the model and country where you bought the machine.

The number of pages that can be printed with a toner cartridge is affected by several factors, including paper size, number of pages per print job, amount of print on each page, font size, and print content, such as graphics, charts, etc.
The approximate toner yield is in accordance with ISO/IEC 19798.
