I configured the "IP Config" method of the machine to "Auto" to assign an IP address automatically, however it was changed to "Static" unexpectedly. I get an error message that indicates IP address is not unique, or a document is printed out by the machine I didn't expected.

When wireless network connection is unstable and the APIPA protocol is enabled, you might experience this difficulty.

Please follow these steps below to set the BOOT method back to AUTO and disable the APIPA protocol.

*If your Brother machine has a Touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For Touchscreen models" below.


  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select LAN or Network. Press OK.
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select WLAN. Press OK.
    (NOTE: If your machine supports only wireless network, skip this step.)
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select TCP/IP. Press OK.
  5. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select BOOT Method. Press OK.
  6. Select Auto. Press OK.
  7. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select APIPA. Press OK.
  8. Select Off. Press OK.
  9. Press Stop/Exit or Cancel.
[For Touchscreen models]
  1. Press Menu on the touchscreen.
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow to display Network. Press Network.
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow to display WLAN. Press WLAN.
    (NOTE: If your machine supports only wireless network, skip this step.)
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow to display TCP/IP. Press TCP/IP.
  5. Press the Up or Down arrow to display Boot Method. Press Boot Method.
  6. Press Auto.
  7. Press the Up or Down arrow to display APIPA. Press APIPA.
  8. Press Off.
  9. Press Stop/Exit.
