How to launch and use the DeviceSelector to configure the scanner? (For Macintosh)

In order to use the DeviceSelector, you need to open the ControlCenter2.
There may be two different versions of the ControlCenter2 software available depending on your model and operating system. If you are not sure which version you have, try the steps for each version in turn.

 
Current Version:

  1. To open the ControlCenter2 application, click Go from the Finder bar, Applications => Brother => ControlCenter. Double click ControlCenter. The ControlCenter will open and an icon will be placed in the dock.

  2. From the Model dropdown, choose Other….The Device Selector will appear
    • If your machine is already listed, you may choose it from the list and click OK.
    • If your machine is not listed, continue to STEP 3 to add a scanner.
       
    If you want to delete a machine from the list, highlight it and click – (minus).

  3. Click + (plus). A list of machines will appear.
    • USB Users: If your machine is connected using USB, it will appear in the list as Kind : USB. Continue to STEP 5.
    • Network Users: Continue to STEP 4.
       
    If you do not see your network-connected machine, you may click IP at the top of the window, and enter the IP address of the Brother Machine.

  4. If you want to configure settings for the Scan key, place a check next to Scan Key Settings. You will receive the following additional fields:
    • In the Display Name field, enter a name for the Mac (up to 15 characters), which will appear on the machine's display when you press "Scan". You must configure this field in order to use the Scan Key.
    • You may check Enable PIN code protection and enter a PIN code. When this setting is enabled, you will be prompted to enter the PIN at the machine when you attempt to scan to this Mac. This setting is optional.

  5. Click Add.
     
  6. Make sure that the scanner you want is highlighted and click OK. The DeviceSelector will close.
     

 

 

Previous Version:

  1. To open the ControlCenter2 application, click Go from the Finder bar, Applications => Brother => ControlCenter.app or Macintosh HD => Library => Printers => Brother => Utilities => ControlCenter => ControlCenter.app.
    Double click ControlCenter.app. The ControlCenter will open and an icon will be placed at the top of right of the screen near the system time.

    • If you do not see the ControlCenter software, then you may be using the current version of ControlCenter. For instructions on how to use this version, refer to Current Version.
    • If you do not have either version, then the scanner driver and ControlCenter software is not installed properly. Click here to download the scanner driver in the Downloads section.
    • The ControlCenter can be viewed by clicking on the icon near the time, if available, and choosing Open.
     
  2. From the Model dropdown, choose Other… The Device Selector will appear.
     
  3. Select the appropriate Connection Type from the dropdown: USB or Network.
    • USB Users: Select your machine from the list and continue to STEP 8.
    • Network Users: Continue to STEP 4.
       
    (USB Users):
    If your machine is not listed, then there is no communication between the Brother machine and the Mac. Make sure that the USB cable is directly connected between the Brother machine and an available port on the Mac, and that the Brother machine is powered on. You may need to try another USB cable and other ports on the Mac if possible.
     
  4. You may specify the Brother machine using one of the following options:
    • Specify Your Machine By Address
    • Specify Your Machine By Name

  5. To search for your Brother machine on the network, click Browse.
     
  6. When your machine is listed, select it and click OK.

    If you do not see your network-connected machine, close this window and instead, enter your machine's IP address under Specify your machine by address.
     
  7. If you want to configure settings for the Scan key, you may configure the following fields:

    • Place a check next to Register your computer with the "Scan To" functions at the machine.
    • In the Display Name field, enter a name for the Mac (up to 15 characters), which will appear on the machine's display when you press "Scan". You must configure this field in order to use the Scan Key.
    • You may check Enable PIN number protection and enter a PIN. When this setting is enabled, you will be prompted to enter the PIN at the machine when you attempt to scan to this Mac. This setting is optional.

     

  8. Click OK. The DeviceSelector will close.
