Scan a document and save the scanned image to a folder on a local or network hard disk

You can scan a document and save the scanned image to a preferred folder using ControlCenter, or by pressing the SCAN key on Brother machine's control panel.

Using ControlCenter4 (Windows)

Home Mode
  1. Load your document.
     
  2. Click the Scan tab.
     
  3. Select the Document Type and Scan Size.
     
  4. Click Scan.

  5. The scanned image will be displayed in the image viewer. Confirm and edit (if necessary) the scanned image.
     
  6. Click Save.

  7. The Save dialog will appear. Configure the settings, and click OK. The image will be saved in the folder you have selected in the settings window.

File Type:
Select the file type for the scanned image from the File Type drop-down list. The following file types are available:

*Note: The available file types vary depending on your Brother machine and operating system.

 

 

  • Windows Bitmap (*.bmp)
  • JPEG (*.jpg)
  • TIFF (*.tif)
  • TIFF Multi-Page (*.tif)
  • Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
  • PDF (*.pdf)
  • High Compression PDF (*.pdf)
  • Secure PDF (*.pdf)
  • Searchable PDF (*.pdf)
  • XML Paper Specification (*.xps)
  • Microsoft Office Word (*.docx)
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint (*.pptx)

    Note:

     

    • The XML Paper Specification is available for Windows Vista or later, or when using applications which support XML Paper Specification files.
    • If you set the file type to JPEG, PDF or Secure PDF, you can configure File size.
    • If you set the file type to TIFF or TIFF Multi-Page, you can select "Uncompressed" or "Compressed".
    • Searchable PDF is a file format that includes a text data layered over the scanned image. This layer allows you to search the text on the image data. The OCR language setting must be set to match the search language that you want to use for the searchable PDF.
    • To select Searchable PDF, you must install Nuance PaperPort™ or Presto! PageManager installed on your computer. The Nuance PaperPort™ or Presto! PageManager software is supplied on the CD with your Brother machine.
       

File Name:
Configure the prefix text used for the file name of the scanned image in the File Name box.

Destination Folder:
Set the folder to save the scanned image in the Destination Folder box.

 

Advanced Mode
  1. Load your document.
     
  2. Click the Scan tab.
     
  3. Click File.

  4. The Scan Settings dialog box appears. You can configure the scan settings in this dialog box. If you want to preview and configure the scanned image, check PreScan box.

  5. Click Scan. The image will be saved in the folder you have selected.
     

Using ControlCenter2 (Macintosh)

  1. Load your document.
     
  2. Click the Scan tab.
     
  3. Click File.

  4. The Scan to File dialog box will appear. You can configure the scan settings.

  5. Click Start Scanning. The image will be saved in the folder you have selected.
     

Using the SCAN key on Brother machine's control panel

  1. Load your document.
     
  2. Press Scan(Scan).
     
  3. Press the Left or Right arrow key to display to File(to File).
     
  4. Press to File(to File).
     
  5. Press OK. (only for certain models)
     
  6. (For network users)

     

    1. Press the Up or Down arrow key to display the destination computer you want to send to.

      Note:
      If the computer is not displayed, click here to see how to solve the issue.

       
    2. Press the destination computer name.
       
    3. If the LCD prompts you to enter a PIN, enter the 4-digit PIN for the destination computer on the control panel, and press OK.
       
  7. Do one of the following:

     

    • If you want to use the default settings, go to Step 14.
       
    • If you want to change the default settings, go to Step 8.
       
  8. Press Options.
     
  9. To scan both sides of the document, press 2-sided Scan and then press 2-sided Scan: Long Edge or 2-sided Scan: Short Edge.
    (only available for certain models)
     
  10. Press Set with Touch Panel.
     
  11. Press On.
     
    To use Set with Touch Panel, the ControlCenter software must be installed on a computer that is connected to the machine.
     

     

  12. Select the settings for ADF High Speed Mode, Scan Type, Resolution, Scan Size, File Type, Skip Blank Page and Remove Background Color as needed.
    (Skip Blank Page is only available for certain models)
     
    To scan in ADF High Speed Mode, place your document long edge first in the ADF.
     

     

  13. Press OK.
     
  14. Press Start.
