How do I connect the printer to my computer via Wi-Fi® using an access point?
To print using a wireless network connection, you must download and install the printer driver and P-touch Editor.
Establishing a wireless network connection using a USB cable temporarily (recommended)
- Confirm the SSID and password of your WLAN access point/router beforehand.
For Windows:
- Download and install the printer driver and P-touch Editor from the [Downloads] section of this website.
- When installing the printer driver, the setting items for the wireless network connection will be displayed. Complete the setup according to the on-screen instructions.
For Mac:
- Download and install the Full Software Package from the [Downloads] section of this website. Double-click the downloaded file. The Wireless Device Setup Wizard can be found in the [Utilities] folder.
- Double-click the Wireless Device Setup Wizard icon. The setting items for the wireless network connection will be displayed. Complete the setup according to the on-screen instructions.
If you do not know the SSID and password of your WLAN access point/router, contact your system administrator.
If you did not configure the wireless network connection settings when installing the printer driver, you can use one of the following configuration methods.
- Establishing a wireless network connection using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup™) : Infrastructure mode
- Establishing a wireless network connection using the Printer Setting Tool: Infrastructure mode
- Establishing a wireless network connection using Wireless Direct
- Establishing a wireless network connection using the Ad-hoc mode

Establishing a wireless network connection using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup™) : Infrastructure mode
If your WLAN access point/router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup™), settings and connections can be configured easily with the press of a button.- First, confirm that your WLAN access point/router has the WPS symbol and place the printer close to the WLAN access point/router.

Press the WPS button on your wireless access point/router, and press and hold the (Wi-Fi) button on the printer for about five seconds.
The (Wi-Fi) indicator on the printer flashes in green. - When the connection is established, the (Wi-Fi) indicator lights in green.
When you press and hold the (Wi-Fi) button for 5 seconds, the printer will try to connect using WPS for 2 minutes.

Establishing a wireless network connection using the Printer Setting Tool : Infrastructure mode
For Windows:
- Confirm the SSID (network name) and password (network key) of your WLAN access point/router beforehand.
- Connect the printer and computer with a USB cable.
- Press and hold the (Wi-Fi) button on your printer for one second to turn the Wi-Fi function on. The (Wi-Fi) indicator starts flashing in green once every three seconds.

Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer, and click [Communication Settings].
(For information on starting the Printer Setting Tool, see "Using the Printer Setting Tool (for Windows)".) -
Select [Infrastructure or Ad-hoc] or [Infrastructure and Wireless Direct] for [Selected Interface] in [Communication Settings] in the [General] tab, and select [Infrastructure] for [Communication Mode] in [Wireless Settings] in the [Wireless LAN] tab.
(For information on the Communication settings, see "Using the Communication Settings (for Windows)".) - Enter the SSID that you have noted, or click [Search] and select the SSID from the displayed list.

Enter the password in the [Passphrase] field.
The required information depends on the authentication method and encryption mode; enter only the information relevant to your network environment.
- To send the settings to the printer, click [Apply].

When the connection is established, the (Wi-Fi) indicator lights in green.
For Mac:
If you want to establish a wireless network connection using the Infrastructure mode, without using WPS, please choose the method "Establishing a wireless network connection using a USB cable temporarily (recommended) " mentioned above. Establish a connection using the Wireless Device Setup Wizard.
Download and install the Full Software Package from the [Downloads] section of this website. Double-click the downloaded file. The Wireless Device Setup Wizard can be found in the [Utilities] folder. -
Establishing a wireless network connection using Wireless Direct
For Windows:
- Connect the printer and computer with a USB cable.
- Press and hold the (Wi-Fi) button on your printer for one second to turn the Wi-Fi function on. The (Wi-Fi) indicator starts flashing once every three seconds.

Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer, and click [Communication Settings].
(For information on starting the Printer Setting Tool, see "Using the Printer Setting Tool (for Windows)".) - Select [Infrastructure and Wireless Direct] or [Wireless Direct] for [Selected Interface] in [Communication Settings] in the [General] tab.
- Select [Infrastructure] for [Communication Mode] in [Wireless Settings] in the [Wireless LAN] tab, and then click [Apply] to send the settings to the printer.

Use a computer to search for and connect to the printer. The default SSID for the printer is " DIRECT-*****_PT-P900W " or " DIRECT-*****_PT-P950NW " where " ***** " is the last five digits of the product serial number.
(You can find the serial number label in the tape compartment of the printer.) When the connection is established, the (Wi-Fi) indicator lights in green.
Next, add the printer to the computer as the printer used for printing via Wireless Direct. - Display [Devices and Printer] on your computer.
- Click [Add a printer].
- Click [Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer] – [Next].
- Click [The printer that I want isn’t listed] - [Next].
- Select [Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname], and click [Next].
- Select [TCP/IP Device] for [Device type].

Enter your printer's IP address in [Host name or IP address].
Your printer's IP address is displayed in [Current Status] under the [Wireless Direct] tab in the Communication Settings.
- Confirm that [Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use] is checked, and click [Next].
- Select [Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended)], and click [Next].
- Enter any name in [Printer name], and click [Next].
- Select [Do not share this printer], and click [Next].

Click [Finish].
If you want to change any other network settings, use the Communication Settings.

For Mac:
- Connect the printer and computer with a USB cable.

- In the Wi-Fi settings screen of your computer, select the SSID of the printer and enter the password.

Establishing a wireless network connection using the Ad-hoc mode
Not all computers, mobile devices, and operating systems, may support Ad-hoc mode.
For Windows:
- Connect the printer and computer with a USB cable.
- Press and hold the (Wi-Fi) button on your printer for one second to turn the Wi-Fi function on. The (Wi-Fi) indicator starts flashing once every three seconds.

Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer, and click [Communication Settings].
(For information on starting the Printer Setting Tool, see "Using the Printer Setting Tool (for Windows)".) - Select [Infrastructure or Ad-hoc] for [Selected Interface] in [Communication Settings] in the [General] tab.
- Select [Ad-hoc] for [Communication Mode] in [Wireless Settings] in the [Wireless LAN] tab, enter any name to the [SSID] field, and then click [Apply] to send the settings to the printer.

Use a computer to search for and connect to the printer. Use the SSID that you entered in step “e”.
Next, add the printer to the computer as the printer used for printing via Ad-hoc mode.
- Display [Devices and Printer] on your computer.
- Click [Add a printer].
- Click [Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer] – [Next].
- Click [The printer that I want isn’t listed] - [Next].
- Select [Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname], and click [Next].
- Select [TCP/IP Device] for [Device type].

Enter your printer's IP address in [Host name or IP address].
Your printer's IP address is displayed in [Current Status] under the [Wireless LAN] tab in the Communication Settings.
- Confirm that [Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use] is checked, and click [Next].
- Select [Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended)], and click [Next].
- Enter an arbitrary name in [Printer name], and click [Next].
- Select [Do not share this printer], and click [Next].
- Click [Finish].
If you want to change any other network settings, use the Communication Settings.

For Mac:
If you want to establish a wireless network connection using the Ad-hoc mode, please choose the method " Establishing a wireless network connection using a USB cable temporarily (recommended)" mentioned above. Establish a connection using the Wireless Device Setup Wizard.
