FAQs & Troubleshooting

The message "Retry Updating by USB" or "Retry by USB" appears on the machine's LCD when the machine is turned on.

If you turn the machine off, or if there is power failure during a firmware update, the firmware will not be updated, and you will see this message when you turn the machine back on.

To clear the message and update the firmware, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the machine to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Windows users only: Download and install the Full Driver & Software Package from your model's Downloads page at support.brother.com.
  3. Download the Firmware Update Tool from your model's Downloads page at support.brother.com and update the firmware using the USB connection.
