Set up a Brother machine and your mobile device on a wireless network

You can use a wireless router or access point to connect your Brother machine to your mobile device.

1. Connect your Brother machine to your mobile device without using a wireless router

 

Wireless Connection

 

Do the following:

1. Set up your Brother machine

2. Set up your mobile device

 

1.1 Set up your Brother machine

 

  1. Press Menu or Settings.
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select the following:
    1. Select Network. Press OK.
    2. Select Wi-Fi Direct. Press OK.
    3. Select Group Owner. Press OK.
    4. Select On. Press OK.
    5. Select Manual. Press OK.
  3. When Wi-Fi Direct On? appears, select On. (This step may not apply to some models.)
  4. The machine will display the SSID (Network Name) and Password for a few minutes.

    Write down the SSID and Password. You will need this information later.

 

1.2 Set up your mobile device

 

When you have finished setting up your Brother machine, set up your mobile device:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.

  1. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.

  1. Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.

  1. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap CONNECT.

  1. The wireless connection setup is complete if Connected appears under the Network Name (SSID) you selected.

  1. Download Brother iPrint&Scan for iOS supported devices including iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch for free from the App Store.

 

 

2. Connect your Brother machine to your mobile device using a wireless router

 

Wireless Router

 

Do the following:

1. Find the wireless network settings of your wireless router/access point
2. Set up the Brother machine
3. Set up your mobile device

 

2.1 Find the wireless network settings of your wireless router/access point

 

You must find and write down the wireless network settings of your wireless router/access point (you will need this information later):

 

  1. Check the base or side of your wireless router or access point.
  2. See the documentation provided with your wireless router or access point.

 

Write down SSID

 

  • Brother cannot provide this information. If you cannot find your wireless Network Name (SSID) and Network Key (Password), contact your Internet service provider or router manufacturer.
  • If your wireless router or access point uses WEP encryption with multiple WEP keys, write down and use only the first WEP key.

 

2.2 Set up the Brother machine

 

  1. Press Menu or Settings.
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select the following:
    1. Select Network. Press OK. (This step may not apply to some models.)
    2. Select WLAN. Press OK.
    3. Select Setup Wizard. Press OK.
  3. When Enable WLAN? or WLAN Enable? appears, enable the wireless network. The wireless setup starts.
  4. The machine searches for your wireless network and displays a list of available SSIDs (Network Names). Select the SSID (Network Name) you wrote down earlier. Press OK.
  5. Enter the Password (Network Key) you wrote down earlier.
  6. Press OK.
  7. Select Yes to apply your settings.
  8. The machine tries to connect to the device you have selected.
     
    If your mobile device connects successfully If you cannot connect

    The machine's LCD displays Connected.

    The machine prints a wireless connection report. Check the error code on the printed report.

2.3 Set up your mobile device

 

When finished configuring your Brother machine, set up your mobile device:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.

  1. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.

  1. Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.

  1. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap CONNECT.
  1. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap Join.

  1. The wireless connection setup is complete if Connected appears under the Network Name (SSID) name you selected.
