FAQs & Troubleshooting

Scan multiple pages into one file instead of each scan being saved as a separate file.

Below are the file types supporting multi-page documents. You must select one of them as the File Type on the scan settings dialog box which appears when scanning.

 

  • TIFF Multi-Page (*.tif)
  • PDF (*pdf)
  • High Compression PDF (*.pdf) 1
  • Secure PDF (*.pdf)
  • Searchable PDF (*.pdf)
  • XML Paper Specification (*.xps) 2
  • Microsoft Office Word (*.docx) 3
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint (*.pptx) 3
     

1 To save the document as a High Compression PDF, set the Resolution to 300 x 300 dpi and Scan Type to True Grey or 24 bit Colour.

2 Available for Windows Vista or later, or when using applications which support XML Paper Specification files.

3 Only available for certain models.

 

Not available for Scan to Image feature for Advanced Mode of ControlCenter4 for Windows.
Not available for Scan to Image feature for ControlCenter2 for Macintosh.

 

You can scan the documents either from the automatic document feeder (ADF) or from the flatbed scanner glass:

 

1. Scanning from the automatic document feeder (ADF)

Select the operating system (OS) and mode you are using:

  • (Windows) To scan more pages than the maximum ADF capacity, we recommend using the Advanced Mode.
  • Illustrations shown below are from a representative product and operating system and may differ from your Brother machine and operating system.
 
1.1 Scan from Home Mode of ControlCenter4 for Windows
  1. Load your document, top edge first in the ADF.
  2. Click the Scan tab.
  3. Select the Document Type and Scan Size.
  4. Click Scan. The machine starts scanning.

  5. The scanned image appears in the image viewer. Confirm and edit (if necessary) the scanned image.
  6. Click Save or Send E-mail.

  7. The settings dialog appears. Select the file type supporting multi-page documents from the File Type drop-down menu, and then click OK. (Click here to see the file types supporting multi-page documents.)

1.2 Scan from Advanced Mode of ControlCenter4 for Windows
  1. Load your document, top edge first in the ADF.
  2. Click the Scan tab, and then click the type of scan you want (Image, E-mail, or File).

  3. The scan settings dialog appears.
    1. Select the file type supporting multi-page documents from the File Type drop-down menu. (Click here to see the file types supporting multi-page documents.)
    2. Select the Continuous Scanning box. (Using this option, you can scan more pages than the maximum ADF capacity.)
    3. Click Scan. The machine starts scanning.

1.3 How to scan from ControlCenter2 for Macintosh
  1. Load your document, top edge first in the ADF.
  2. Click the SCAN tab, and then select the type of scan you want (Image, E-mail, or File).

  3. The scan settings dialog appears.
    1. Select the file type supporting multi-page documents from the File Type pop-up menu. (Click here to see the file types supporting multi-page documents.)
    2. Select the Continuous Scanning box. (Using this option, you can scan more pages than the maximum ADF capacity.)
    3. Click Start Scanning. The machine starts scanning.

2. Scanning from the flatbed scanner glass

Select the operating system (OS) and mode you are using:

2.1 How to scan from Home Mode of ControlCenter4 for Windows

 

  1. Lift the document cover.
  2. Place the document face down on the scanner glass, and then close the document cover.
  3. Click the Scan tab.
  4. Select Custom for the Document Type, and then select the Scan Size.
  5. Click Custom Settings.

  6. The Custom Scan Settings dialog appears. Select the Continuous Scanning box, and then click OK.

  7. Click Scan. The machine starts scanning.

  8. When scanning is finished, it will ask if you wish to scan more pages. To scan more pages, place the next document on the scanner glass and click Continue. When you have finished scanning all your documents, click Finish.

  9. The scanned image appears in the image viewer. Confirm and edit (if necessary) the scanned image.
  10. Click Save or Send E-mail.

  11. The settings dialog appears. Select the file type supporting multi-page documents from the File Type drop-down menu, and then click OK. (Click here to see the file types supporting multi-page documents.)

2.2 How to scan from Advanced Mode of ControlCenter4 for Windows
  1. Lift the document cover.
  2. Place the document face down on the scanner glass, and then close the document cover.
  3. Click the Scan tab, and then click the type of scan you want (Image, E-mail, or File).

    2. Select the Continuous Scanning box.

  5. When scanning is finished, it will ask if you wish to scan more pages. To scan more pages, place the next document on the scanner glass and click Continue. When you have finished scanning all your documents, click Finish.

2.3 How to scan from ControlCenter2 for Macintosh

 

  1. Lift the document cover.
  2. Place the document face down on the scanner glass, and then close the document cover.
  3. Click the SCAN tab, and then select the type of scan you want (Image, E-mail, or File).
