How to calibrate the Gap/Black Mark Sensor by directly operating the printer

The Gap/Black Mark Sensor sensitivity should be calibrated whenever:

  • A new printer is purchased
  • Label stock is changed
  • Printer initialisation takes place

To calibrate the ribbon and Gap/Black Mark Sensor:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Feed/Pause Button and then turn on the printer.
  3. Release the button when the LED is lit in red/amber (blinks 5 times alternately).
The LED colour will change in the following order:
Amber (lit) > Red/Amber (blinks 5 times alternately) (Release the button here) > Amber (5 times) > Green/Red (blinks 5 times alternately) > Green (5 times) > Red (5 times) > Green (lit)

To select the sensor for calibration, send the correct command to the printer:

    • For the Gap Sensor: the GAP command
    • For the Black Mark Sensor: the BLINE command

You can also calibrate by using the BPM (Brother Printer Management Tool).
