What do the indicator lights mean?

The indicator lights and flashes to indicate the printer's status.

If the status indicator lights or blinks in red when an error occurs, press and hold the power button, cancel the error then try the solution method.

The symbols used in this section explain the meaning of the different indicator colours and patterns:

green is lit or orange is lit or red is lit
Indicator is lit in the colour shown
green is flashing or orange is flashing or red is flashing
Indicator is flashing in the colour shown
Off
Indicator is off
Status LED Condition Solution
Power off -
The power cord is not inserted correctly Check that the power cord is inserted. If it is inserted correctly, try plugging it into another electrical outlet.
Power on -
Receiving/Transferring data -
The DK Roll compartment cover is open Close the DK Roll compartment cover correctly.
Now resetting -
Cooling mode The thermal head or motor is too hot. Wait until the status indicator light stops blinking, then resume printing.
Now resetting -
Boot mode Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.

(once every 1 second)
No Roll

Load the DK Roll. If there is sufficient roll remaining, insert the DK Roll correctly.

Roll paper cannot be fed
  • Insert the end of the DK Roll correctly. Make sure that the DK Roll passes through under the sensor.

  • If there is not sufficient roll remaining, replace the DK Roll with a new one.
No media error Load the DK Roll.

Communication error Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. Make sure that the USB cable between the printer and computer is properly connected, then resume printing.
Cover open error Close the DK Roll compartment cover correctly.

(1 second off + flashing twice)
Cutter error Do not open the DK Roll compartment cover when the cutter is operating. To clear this error, press any button.
EEPROM error Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.
