What do the indicator lights mean?

The indicators light and blink to indicate the printer's status.  The following symbols are used in this FAQ to explain the meaning of the different indicator colours and patterns.

 

 

green is lit or orange is lit or red is lit or blue is lit

green is flashing or orange is flashing or red is flashing or blue is flashing

Boot mode Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.

Replace the DK Roll with a new one. If there is sufficient tape remaining, install the DK Roll correctly.

Feed error Insert the end of the DK Roll correctly.
No media error Load the DK Roll.

Cover open error Close the DK Roll Compartment Cover correctly.
Communication error ・Transfer of the data failed. When sending a template as a .blf file, the model name in the file is different.
→ Check the data and the connection status between the printer and the computer.

・The wireless LAN connection was interrupted. Turn off the printer, and then turn the printer on again.

・For Windows
If this error occurs during 2-colour printing, click the [Print] button in P-touch Editor, and then change [Output] to [Standard] in the [Print] dialog box that appears.
If [High Resolution] is selected, you cannot use 2-colour printing.
BLF file error Confirm that the model supports .blf files, and then transfer the data again.
Database search error ・There is no database with the specified number. Specify a correct number.
・The search for a template with a linked database fails.
→ Search again.
No template error ・There is no template with the specified number. Specify a correct number.
・When printing a template, the specified template does not exist.
→ Select the correct template, and then print again.
Access point search error

・The access point could not be found.
→ Try to connect again.
・An access point for establishing a connection could not be specified.
→ Confirm the WPS setting environment (distance between the access point and the printer, presence of obstructions, and so on) for the access point, and then configure the WPS settings for the printer again.

Access point connection error If you are using two or more access points, reduce the number of access points to one, and then connect the printer again.
Access point setting error Set the encryption method of the access point to a method other than WEP, and configure the wireless LAN settings using WPS.
For more information about setting the encryption method of the access point, see the instructions provided with your access point.
Security error Configure the wireless settings using WPS again.
Charging required error Connect the AC adapter to the printer.

red is flashing

(0.9 seconds off + 0.3 seconds flashing)

Depends on whether the Editor Lite mode is on or off*1 Depends on the status of the wireless connection*2 Cutter error Do not open the DK Roll compartment cover when the cutter is operating.
To clear this error, press any button.

red is flashing

(Once every 0.3 seconds)

System error Turn off the printer and then turn it on again. If the problem still occurs, contact Brother Customer Service.

 

*1: green is lit (Editor Lite mode is on) or Off (Editor Lite mode is off)

 

*2: blue is lit (wireless connection is established), blue is flashing (wireless connection is not established or it is being established), or Off
(wireless function is off)
