Powder/dust from the paper may build up on the surface of the paper pick-up rollers. This can cause the paper to slip as it is picked up from the tray. To resolve this issue follow the steps below:

• Clean the paper pick-up roller
  
  
  1. Unplug the machine from the AC power outlet (electrical socket).
     
     
  2. Pull the paper trays completely out of the machine.
     
     
  3. Open the Jam Clear Cover (1) at the back of the machine.
     
     
     
     
     
  4. Clean the Back Paper Feed Rollers (1) with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with water.
     Slowly turn the rollers so that the whole surface is clean. After cleaning, wipe the rollers with a dry, soft lint-free cloth to remove all moisture.
     
     
     
     
     

     Do not touch the metal shaft.

     
     
     
  5. Close the Jam Clear Cover. Make sure the cover is completely closed.
     
     
  6. Put the paper trays firmly back in the machine.
     
     
  7. Re-connect the power cord.

• Flip the paper in the paper tray
  
  
  

  If you are using paper that has a coating on one side (e.g. Photo Paper) skip this step.

  
  
  1. Take the paper out of the tray and fan the stack of paper well.
     
     
  2. Install the paper into the tray with the other side face up.
     
     
  3. Put the paper tray firmly back in the machine.
     
     
  4. Start copying or printing again.

If you still have a problem after performing the previous steps Brother recommends copying or printing your document at a higher resolution (an increased resolution will print your document at a slower speed).

• Change the copy or print quality setting

  1. Press the Copy button on the machine.
     
     
  2. Press the up or down arrow key to choose Quality.
     
     
  3. Press the right or left arrow key to choose Normal or Best. Press OK.
     
     
  4. Start copying.

  1. Press the Copy Button on the machine.
     
     
  2. Press the right or left arrow key to display Quality.
     
     
  3. Press Normal or Best.
     
     
  4. Start copying.
     
     
     
     
  - for PC print
  
  For Windows 2000 users:
  Click Start -> Settings -> Printers.
  
  For Windows XP users:
  Click Start -> Printers and Faxes.
  
  For Windows Vista users:
  Click Start-> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Printers.
  
  For Windows 7 users:
  Click Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers.
  
  
  1. Right click the printer icon and choose Printing Preferences.
     
     
  2. Change the print mode at the Quality section. Choose one of the modes Fast Normal, Normal, Fine, Photo or Highest.
     
     
     
     
     
  3. Click Apply -> OK
     
     
     
  For Mac OS X Users:
  
  
  1. Open the Print dialog. (Click here to see the details of how to open the Print dialog.)
     
     
  2. Choose Print Settings in the Print dialog box.
     
     
     
     
     
  3. Click on the drop down menu next to Quality.
     
     
  4. Choose one of the modes Fast Normal, Normal, Fine, Photo or Highest.
