FAQs & Troubleshooting

Change the quality of the faxes I send.

You can change the quality of your sent faxes by adjusting the Fax Resolution setting.

You can choose the following Fax Resolution settings:


Black & White
Standard Suitable for most typed documents.
Fine Good for small print and transmits a little slower than Standard resolution.
S.Fine Good for small print or artwork and transmits slower than Fine resolution.
Photo Use when the document has varying shades of gray or is a photograph.
Photo has the slowest transmission.

Color
Standard Suitable for most typed documents.
Fine Use when the document is a photograph.
The transmission time is slower than Standard resolution.


If you select S.Fine or Photo resolution and then use the Color (Colour) Start key to send a fax, the machine will send the fax using the Fine setting.

Changing Fax Resolution for the next fax only

To change the Fax Resolution setting for the next fax you send, follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For Touchscreen models" below.
  1. Press the Fax key to illuminate it.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Fax Resolution.

  3. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Fax Resolution setting you want to use.

    • If you are sending a black and white fax, you can choose Standard, Fine, S.Fine, or Photo.

    • If you are sending a color fax, you can choose Standard or Fine.


  4. Press the OK key.

  5. Enter the fax number you want to send to.

  6. Press the Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start key.
<For Touchscreen models>
  1. Press the Fax key to illuminate it.

  2. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to display Fax Resolution.

  3. Press Fax Resolution.

  4. Press the Fax Resolution setting you want to use.

    • If you are sending a black and white fax, you can choose Standard, Fine, S.Fine, or Photo.

    • If you are sending a color fax, you can choose Standard or Fine.


  5. Enter the fax number you want to send to.

  6. Press the Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start key.


Changing the default Fax Resolution

To change the Fax Resolution setting for the next fax you send, follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press the Fax key to illuminate it.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key choose Fax Resolution.

  3. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose the default Fax Resolution setting that you want to use.

    • You can choose Standard, Fine, S.Fine, or Photo.


  4. Press the OK key.

  5. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Set New Default.

  6. Press 1 to choose Yes.

  7. Press the Stop/Exit key.
<For Touchscreen models>
  1. Press the Fax key to illuminate it.

  2. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to display Fax Resolution.

  3. Press Fax Resolution.

  4. Press the default Fax Resolution setting that you want to use.

    • You can choose Standard, Fine, S.Fine, or Photo.


  5. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to display Set New Default.

  6. Press Set New Default.

  7. Press Yes.

  8. Press the Stop/Exit key.
