Cartridge Alert

The error message Cartridge Alert is an indication that has a problem.

Check the error message shown on the machine's display (hereinafter called LCD) and follow the solution suitable for your case.


  • If the LCD shows Ink Cartridge expired, the cartridge's expiration date has passed.

    You can clear this error by opening and closing the printer's ink cartridge cover. If you continue to use the cartridge, print quality may decrease. Replace the ink cartridge. Click here to see how to replace the Ink Cartridge.


  • If the LCD shows Non-Brother cartridge detected, check that you are using "Genuine" Brother replacement ink cartridges.

    If you are using non-Brother ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges, the machine may not detect the ink cartridge. Use a Genuine Brother Ink Cartridge. You can clear this error by opening and closing the printer's ink cartridge cover.


  • If the LCD shows Recommend using new cartridge, the ink cartridge has been used with too many printers.

    DO NOT remove a cartridge unless its ink runs out. Removing a cartridge while it contains ink may cause ink to leak out. You can clear this error by opening and closing the printer's ink cartridge cover.
