Set up a Brother machine and your mobile device on a wireless network

You can use a wireless router or access point to connect your Brother machine to your mobile device.

1. Connect your Brother machine to your mobile device without using a wireless router

You can set up a wireless network connection between your machine and a mobile device without using a wireless router or access point.

Follow the steps below to set up a Brother machine on a wireless network without a wireless router or access point.

 

1.1 Set up your Brother machine

 

  1. Press Settings(Settings) > All Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Direct > Group Owner > On.
  2. Press Manual.
  3. The machine will display the SSID name and Password for a few minutes.

    Write down the SSID name and Password. You will need this information later.

    When the machine receives the Wi-Fi Direct request from your mobile device, the message Wi-Fi Direct connection request received. Press OK to connect. will appear on the LCD. Press OK to connect.

 

1.2 Set up your mobile device

 

When you have finished setting up your Brother machine, follow the instructions below:

> Apple iPhone, iPod touch or iPad

 

  • Android™
    1. Tap the Settings icon.

    2. Tap Wi-Fi.

      Wi-Fi
       
    3. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.

    4. Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.Find

      SSID
       
    5. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap CONNECT.

    6. The wireless connection setup is complete if Connected appears under the Network Name (SSID) you selected.

    7. Download Brother iPrint&Scan for Android devices for free from Google Play™.
  • Apple iPhone, iPod touch or iPad
    1. Tap the Settings icon.

      Settings
       
    2. Tap Wi-Fi.

      Wi-Fi
       
    3. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.

    4. Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.Find

      SSID
       
    5. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap Join.

    6. The wireless connection setup is complete if a check mark appears next to the Network Name (SSID) you selected.

    7. Download Brother iPrint&Scan for iOS supported devices including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch for free from the App Store.

 

 

2. Connect your Brother machine to your mobile device using a wireless router

Wireless Router

To set up your Brother machine on a wireless network with a wireless router or access point, follow the steps below.

 

2.1 Before you set up your connection

 

Write down the Network Name (SSID) and Network Key (Password) of your wireless router or access point. You will need this information later.

 

Write down SSID

 

After checking the network information of your wireless router or access point, go to the next step.

 

2.2 Set up the Brother machine

 

  1. Press Settings(Settings) > All Settings > Network > WLAN > Setup Wizard.
  2. When Enable WLAN? or Switch Network interface to wireless? appears, enable the wireless network. The wireless setup starts.
  3. The machine will search for your wireless network and display a list of available SSIDs. Select the SSID you wrote down earlier. Press OK.
  4. Enter the Password you wrote down earlier.
  5. Press OK.
  6. The machine tries to connect to the device you have selected.
     
    • If your mobile device connected successfully
      The machine's LCD displays Connected.
       
    • If the connection failed
      The machine will print a wireless connection report. Check the error code on the printed report.

2.3 Set up your mobile device

 

When finished configuring your Brother machine, do one of the following to configure your mobile device:

> Android™

> Apple iPhone, iPod touch or iPad

 

  • Android™
    1. Tap the Settings icon.

      Settings
       
    2. Tap Wi-Fi.

      Wi-Fi
       
    3. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.

      turn on
       
    4. Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.

    5. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap CONNECT.

      CONNECT
       
    6. The wireless connection setup is complete if Connected appears under the Network Name (SSID) name you selected.

    7. Download Brother iPrint&Scan for Android devices for free from Google Play™.
  • Apple iPhone, iPod touch or iPad
    1. Tap the Settings icon.

    2. Tap Wi-Fi.

    3. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.
