FAQs & Troubleshooting

Change machine settings from your computer.

You can change machine settings easily from your computer and there are benefits as below.

 

  • You can save administrator's time and effort.
  • You can prevent users from making a mistake in settings.

NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from a representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.

 

You can change the settings from your computer one by one. Also you can export the Address Book data from a Brother machine and import it to another Brother machine.
The setting method varies depending on if the Brother machine is connected to a network or not.

 

> If the Brother machine is connected to a network
> If the Brother machine is NOT connected to a network

 

If the Brother machine is connected to a network

We recommend using Web Based Management because it allows you to change the most various settings. The below explains how to use Web Based Management.

Changing machine settings by Web Based Management
 

  1. Access Web Based Management.
    > Click here to see how to access Web Based Management.
     
  2. If you have previously set your own password, go to STEP3.
    If you have not previously set your own password, change the default login password.
    > Click here to how to change the password.
     
  3. You can change each setting by clicking the tabs on the top.

  4. After completing the setting, logout and close the web browser.

 

Exporting Address Book data
 

  1. Access Web Based Management.
    > Click here to see how to access Web Based Management.
     
  2. If you have previously set your own password, go to STEP3.
    If you have not previously set your own password, change the default login password.

  3. Click the Address Book tab and select Export in the left navigation bar.

  4. Click Export to file. You will be prompted to save the files where the Address and Group data will be exported. Enter the file name and click Save.
    For some models, the One Touch Dial, Speed Dial and Group data will be exported.

Importing Address Book data
 

  1. Access Web Based Management.

  2. If you have previously set your own password, go to STEP3.
    If you have not previously set your own password, change the default login password.

  3. Click the Address Book tab and select Import in the left navigation bar.

  4. Click Browse and specify the Address Book and Group data files, and then click Submit. The Address Book data will be imported.
    For some models, click Browse and specify the One Touch Dial, Speed Dial and Group data files.

If the Brother machine is NOT connected to a network

You can use Remote Setup Software to change the settings of the Brother machine connected to a computer using a USB cable. The below explains how to use Remote Setup Software.

If Secure Function Lock is set to On, you cannot use Remote Setup.

Changing machine settings by Remote Setup
 

  1. Connect your computer and Brother machine using a USB cable.
     
  2. Start Remote Setup Software.
    (Windows 11)
    Click Start => All apps => Brother => Brother Utilities. Select your model name from the pulldown list and then select Tools and click Remote Setup.

    (Windows 10)
    Click start(Start button) => All Programs => Brother => Brother Utilities. Select your model name from the pulldown list and then select Tools and click Remote Setup.

    (Windows 8/ 8.1)
    Click Brother Utilities on the Desktop screen, and then click the drop-down list. Select your Brother machine from the drop-down list. Click Tools in the left navigation bar and select Remote Setup.
    * You can open the Desktop screen by clicking Desktop on the Start screen.

    (Windows 7)
    Click start(Start) and select All programs => Brother => Brother Utilities. Select your Brother machine from the drop-down list. Click Tools in the left navigation bar and click Remote Setup.

    (macOS 10.13 or earlier)
    In the Finder menu bar, click Go => Applications => Brother, and then double-click Remote Setup.
     
  3. The Remote Setup Software screen appears. Select the item in the left menu and configure the settings as needed.

  4. Click Apply to apply the changes to the machine.
    If you click OK, the changes will be applied to the machine and then the Remote Setup Software will be exited.

 

Exporting Address Book data
 

  1. Connect your computer to the Brother machine you want to export the Address Book data from using a USB cable, and start Remote Setup Software. See Step 1 in Changing machine settings for details.
     
  2. Click Export.

  3. Select Address Book Only and click Start.

  4. You will be prompted to save the file where the Address Book data will be exported. Enter the file name and click Save.

 

Importing Address Book data
 

  1. Connect your computer to the Brother machine you want to import the Address Book data into using a USB cable, and start Remote Setup Software. See Step 1 in Changing machine settings for details.
     
  2. Click Import.

  3. Select Address Book Only and click Start.

  4. Specify the file where you exported and saved Address Book data.
     
  5. Follow the instruction on the screen to complete Address Book data import.
