If you are having difficulty sending a fax overseas due to possible interference on the telephone line, setting your Brother machine's Compatibility to Basic may help.

To change your Brother machine's Compatibility setting, follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

1. Press the MENU key.
   
   
2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Initial Setup.
   
   
3. Press the OK key.
   
   
4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Compatibility.
   
   
5. Press the OK key.
   
   
6. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Basic (for VoIP).
   
   
7. Press the OK key.
   
   
8. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

<For Touchscreen models>

1. Press MENU.
   
   
2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to display Initial Setup.
   
   
3. Press Initial Setup.
   
   
4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to display Compatibility.
   
   
5. Press Compatibility.
   
   
6. Press Basic (for VoIP).
   
   
7. Press STOP/EXIT.
   
   

If you are still having problems sending overseas after setting Compatibility to Basic (for VoIP), try turning on your Brother machine's Overseas Mode.

 

To turn Overseas Mode on, follow these steps:

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

1. Press the FAX key to illuminate it.
   
   
2. Place the document you want to fax face down on the flat scanner glass.
   
   
3. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Overseas Mode.
   
   
4. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose On.
   
   
5. Press the OK key.
   
   
6. Enter the fax number you want to send to.
   
   
7. Press the BLACK(MONO) START or the COLOR(COLOUR) START on the Brother machine.
   
   
   • If you press the BLACK(MONO) START on your Brother machine, the machine will scan the first page. Go to STEP 8.
     
     
   • If you press the COLOR(COLOUR) START on your Brother machine, the machine will scan and fax the document.
   
   
8. Do one of the following:
   
   
   • To send a single-page fax, press the BLACK(MONO) START on your Brother machine again or press 2 to choose No.
     
     Your Brother machine will scan and fax the document.
     
     
   • To send more than one page, press 1 to choose Yes. Go to STEP 9.
   
   
9. Place the next page you want to fax face down on the flat scanner glass.
   
   
10. Press the OK key.
    
    
    • Your Brother machine will scan the next page.
      
      
    • Repeat STEPS 9 and 10 for each additional page you want to fax.
    
    
    
11. Press the BLACK(MONO) START on the Brother machine to send the fax.

<For Touchscreen models>

1. Press the FAX key to illuminate it.
   
   
2. Place the document you want to fax face down on the flat scanner glass.
   
   
3. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to display Overseas Mode.
   
   
4. Press Oversea Mode.
   
   
5. Press On.
   
   
6. Enter the fax number you want to send to.
   
   
7. Press the BLACK(MONO) START or the COLOR(COLOUR) START on the Brother machine.
   
   
   • If you press the BLACK(MONO) START on your Brother machine, the machine will scan the first page. Go to STEP 8.
     
     
   • If you press the COLOR(COLOUR) START on your Brother machine, the machine will scan and fax the document.
   
   
8. Do one of the following:
   
   
   • To send a single-page fax, press BLACK(MONO) START on your Brother machine again or press No.
     
     Your Brother machine will scan and fax the document.
     
     
   • To send more than one page, press Yes. Go to STEP 9.
   
   
9. Place the next page you want to fax face down on the flat scanner glass.
   
   
10. Press BLACK(MONO) START.
    
    
    • Your Brother machine will scan the next page.
      
      
    • Repeat STEPS 9 and 10 for each additional page you want to fax.
