FAQs & Troubleshooting

What is a file server based network and do Brother printers work in that type of environment?

If you have a network with a single server or group of servers (typically running Windows NT 4®, Windows® 2000, Novell Netware, Unix, Linx etc..) which everyone accesses through a series of network shares, then it is more likely that you have a file server based network.

Brother printers can work in a variety of different ways in this type of environment.

You can also create a central queue on your file server and have all jobs delivered to the printer using an optional Brother print server. This is the most flexible way of printing in this type of network, however, it is also possible in many server based systems to connect the printer to a server using the parallel or USB interfaces and then share that printer to the relevant network users.
