FAQs & Troubleshooting

The message "No Device" appears when starting the "Status Monitor". What can I do?

To resolve this issue, please download and use the patch tool following the instructions below.


  1. Right click on a blank area on your Desktop, click NEW and then click FOLDER. A folder titled "New Folder" will appear on your Desktop.

  2. Right click the folder, click RENAME from the drop down options and type BROTHER.

  3. Click here to start downloading the patch file.

  4. The Brother End-User License Agreement will appear. If you agree to the terms, click I ACCEPT.

  5. "File Download" will appear. Click SAVE.

  6. From the "SAVE IN" drop down menu, click DESKTOP. Double click the "Brother" folder and then click SAVE. This will begin the download of the patch file.

  7. Once the download is complete, either the download window will disappear or you will see "Download complete" message. If "Download complete" appears, click Close.
    If the License Agreement window is still open, click the red boxed "X" on the upper right corner to close the window.

  8. Windows® 98/ 98SE/ Me/ 2000 users:
    Click START -> SETTINGS -> PRINTERS.

    Windows® XP users:
    Click START -> PRINTERS AND FAXES.

  9. Right click the Printer icon of your model name and select Properties.

  10. Click the General tab.

  11. Verify text is entered in the "Comment" field. If the field is empty, enter any text. Example: MFC420CN

*For Windows® 2000/ XP users:
  1. Press the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys on the keyboard simultaneously. Click on Task Manager.

  2. Click on the Processes tab. Click on Image Name.

  3. Search for the following processes listed under "Image Name": "Brmfcmon.exe" and/or "Brmfcwnd.exe"

    • If the processes are listed:
      Close "Task Manager" and restart your computer, then go to the next step.

    • If none of the processes are listed:
      Close "Task Manager" and go to the next step.

  4. Go to your Desktop, double click the "BROTHER" folder and locate the file named brlm.EXE (ZIP is on the icon and .exe may appear at the end of the name).

  5. Double click on the file brlm.EXE.

  6. "ZIP Self Decompression" appears. Click DECOMPRESS.

  7. A message that the process was successful will appear. Click OK.

The issue should be resolved.

 

*For Windows® 98/ 98SE/ Me users:

  1. Press Ctrl, Alt and Del keys on the keyboard simultaneously to open "Close Program" menu.

  2. Make sure that "Brmfcmon.exe" and/or "Brmfcwnd.exe" files is listed on this screen.

    • If the processes are listed:
      Click Cancel to exit and restart your computer, then go to the next step.

    • If none of the processes are listed:
      Click Cancel to exit and go to the next step.

  3. Go to your Desktop, double click the "BROTHER" folder and locate the file named brlm.EXE (ZIP is on the icon and .exe may appear at the end of the name).

  4. Double click on the file brlm.EXE.

  5. "ZIP Self Decompression" appears. Click DECOMPRESS.

  6. A message that the process was successful will appear. Click OK.


The issue should be resolved.
