How do I connect the printer to my mobile device using the Infrastructure mode or the Wireless Direct mode?

Follow the procedures below:
 

  1. Download and install Brother iPrint&Label or update it to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play™.

  2. Turn the printer on.

  3. Do one of the following:
    > Connect using Infrastructure Mode
    > Connect using Wireless Direct

Connect using Infrastructure Mode

  • If your printer cannot be found in your mobile device's settings or mobile application’s settings screen, do the following:
    1. Turn the printer off.
    2. Press and hold the [Power (Power)] Button and the [WPS] Button at the same time until the Wi-Fi LED starts flashing.
  • If [Wi-Fi Network Setup] does not appear in the settings menu of iPrint&Label, your application or your printer's firmware may not be up to date. Go to "Set the Wireless Direct mode using your computer".

Set the Infrastructure Mode using iPrint&Label

Make sure your printer's firmware version is 1.06 or later. To confirm your printer's firmware version, see "How to identify the printer's firmware version".
To update the firmware, download the Firmware Update Tool from the [Downloads] section of this website.

  1. Do the following:
    Android™: go to Step 2.
    iPhone, iPad or iPod touch: Activate the Wi-Fi function as follows:
     
    1. On your mobile device, tap [Settings] - [Wi-Fi], and then slide the toggle button to turn the Wi-Fi function On.
    2. Select your printer's SSID from the list to connect the mobile device and the printer.

      If your printer's SSID cannot be found in the list, go to "Set the Wireless Direct Mode using your computer".

  2. Start iPrint&Label and select your printer from [Settings] - [Printer].

    If your printer cannot be found in the list, go to "Set the Wireless Direct Mode using your computer".

  3. Tap [Settings] - [Wi-Fi Network Setup].

    If [Wi-Fi Network Setup] does not appear, go to "Set the Infrastructure Mode using your computer".

  4. Enter the SSID and password of your wireless access point/router.

  5. Tap [Connect] and do not leave this screen until the setup is complete.

Set Infrastructure Mode using your computer

 

  1. Set the network mode on your computer:

    Windows
    1. Download the printer driver from the [Downloads] section of this website.
    2. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation.
    3. When the connection type dialog box appears, select [Wireless Network Connection].
    4. When [Will a USB cable be used for setup?] appears, select [Yes (recommended)] and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
    Mac
    1. Download the Full Software Package from the [Downloads] section of this website.
    2. Double-click the downloaded file and click [StartHere] to start the installation.
    3. When the installation of the printer driver starts and the connection type dialog box appears, select [Wireless Network Connection].
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  2. Tap [Settings] - [Wi-Fi] on your mobile device and confirm that your printer is connected to the wireless access point/router.

  3. Start iPrint&Label and select your printer.

Connect using Wireless Direct

If your printer uses the latest firmware, "Wireless Direct" is already selected.

  1. Turn the printer on.
     
  2. Press and hold the [Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi)] Button on the printer for one second to turn the Wi-Fi function On.
    The Wi-Fi LED starts flashing green every three seconds.
     
  3. In your mobile device's Wi-Fi settings screen, select your printer's SSID, and then enter the password.

    If your printer's SSID cannot be found in the list, go to "Set the Wireless Direct mode using your computer".

  4. Start iPrint&Label and select your printer.

Set the Wireless Direct mode using your computer

 

  1. Download and install the printer driver and the Printer Setting Tool from the [Downloads] section of this website.

  2. Set the network mode on your computer:
     
    Windows
    1. Start the Printer Setting Tool.
    2. Click the [Communication Settings] button.
    3. Click [Communication Settings] in the [General] tab.
    4. Confirm that [Infrastructure and Wireless Direct] or [Wireless Direct] is selected for [Selected Interface].
      If it is not selected, select [Infrastructure and Wireless Direct] or [Wireless Direct] and click the [Apply] button.
    Mac
    1. Start the Printer Setting Tool.
    2. Click the [Wireless LAN] tab.
    3. Confirm that [Wireless Direct] is set to [On].
  3. Press and hold the [Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi)] Button on your printer for one second to turn the Wi-Fi function On.
    The Wi-Fi LED starts flashing green every three seconds.

  4. In your mobile device's Wi-Fi settings screen, select your printer's SSID, and then enter the password.

  5. Start iPrint&Label and select your printer.

    The default SSID and password are as follows:
    SSID: "DIRECT-*****_QL-1110NWB" where ***** is the last five digits of the product serial number.
    (You can find the product serial number label in the DK Roll Compartment of the printer.)
    Password: 111***** where ***** is the last five digits of the product serial number.
