FAQs & Troubleshooting |
When I try to print from Microsoft® Word or another program, I receive a message stating: "No Paper", "Reload paper in MP Tray" or "Insert Paper Manual Feed".
This problem can be caused if the paper source in the program is set to Manual feed or MP tray or if the paper size is set to custom/special. It can also be caused if the document you are trying to print was created as a letter, mailing, or label using the Envelopes and Labels Wizard. The document will try to print according to the rules setup in the wizard when it was created.
Please follow the steps below to solve the problem:
I. CLEAR THE ERROR MESSAGE:
To clear the No Paper message, complete one or more of the following steps:
- Delete the print job from the print queue:
- Click Start => Printers and Faxes => Double click on the printer icon for your Brother machine. The Properties window will appear.
- To cancel all documents click PRINTER -> CANCEL ALL DOCUMENTS (or PURGE PRINT DOCUMENTS).
To cancel only selected print jobs, click on the specific job to highlight it. Then click DOCUMENT -> CANCEL.
- You may be asked: Are you sure you want to cancel this job? Click YES.
- Click Start => Printers and Faxes => Double click on the printer icon for your Brother machine. The Properties window will appear.
- Press the JOB CANCEL button if available on your Brother machine. If not, continue to STEP 3.
- Insert paper into the Manual Feed/MP Tray and allow the print job to complete if available on the Brother machine.
If there is no manual feed or MP Tray and the error message is still on the Brother machine, cycle the power to clear the message. Once the message is clear, continue to the next step.
The instructions below are for Microsoft® Word. If you are using a program other than Microsoft® Word, please search for the Default Paper Source and Default Paper Size settings. If you cannot locate these settings, please contact the program's manufacturer for assistance.
II. VERIFY THE DEFAULT PAPER SOURCE:
To change your default Paper Source, complete the following steps. Please note that depending on your version of MS Word, the screen layouts may differ:
- In Microsoft® Word, click FILE or PAGE LAYOUT tab depending on your version of MS Word -> PAGE SETUP.
- Click the PAPER SOURCE tab or PAPER tab depending on your version of MS Word.
- Under the sections labeled FIRST PAGE and OTHER PAGES ensure that MPTRAY or MANUAL is not selected. You may choose another relevant source such as TRAY 1.
- Click OK.
- Click TOOLS -> (LETTERS AND MAILINGS) -> ENVELOPES AND LABELS or click the MAILINGS tab depending on your version of MS Word.
- Click the ENVELOPES tab.
- Click OPTIONS and choose the PRINTING OPTIONS tab.
- Ensure that MP TRAY or MANUAL is not selected. You may choose another relevant source such as TRAY 1 and click OK.
- Click the LABELS tab.
- From the Tray dropdown ensure that MP TRAY or MANUAL is not selected. You may choose another relevant source such as TRAY 1 and click OK.
- Close the Envelopes and Labels configuration by clicking the X in the top right corner.
- Attempt to print your document again. You should no longer receive the No Paper message.
If the problem continues, refer to the documentation or the software vendor of the application you are printing from for steps on selecting the output tray from within the application.
III. VERIFY THE DEFAULT PAPER SIZE:
To change your default Paper Size, complete the following steps. Please note that depending on your version of MS Word, the screen layouts may differ:
- In Microsoft® Word, click FILE or PAGE LAYOUT tab depending on your version of MS Word -> PAGE SETUP.
- Click the PAPER SIZE tab or PAPER tab depending on your version of MS Word.
- Ensure that the paper size is not set to "Custom", or any other special paper size. Unique and special paper sizes are generally not supported through the main paper tray and will attempt to feed through the MP Tray.
