Stop my Brother machine from automatically redialing a number.

If you are sending a fax automatically and the fax is not successful, your machine will automatically redial that number one time after five minutes.

To stop your machine from automatically redialing, follow one of these steps:

 

 

Canceling Automatic Redial

To stop your machine from automatically redialing, follow these steps:

 

If you already hear the machine start to redial a number and you wish to cancel the redialing, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press Stop/Exit.
     
  2. Press 1 or Yes to choose Cancel.
 

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.

 

  1. Press Menu on the control panel.
     
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Fax.
     
  3. Press OK.
     
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Remaining Jobs.
     
  5. Press OK.

     

    • The LCD will display any jobs awaiting redial.
       
    • If no jobs are awaiting redial, the LCD will read "No Jobs Waiting."

     

  6. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose the job you want to stop the machine from redialing.
     
  7. Press OK.
     
  8. Do one of the following:

     

    • Press 1 to cancel the job.
       
    • Press 2 to exit without canceling the job.

     

  9. Do one of the following:

     

 

<For touchscreen models>

 

 

  1. Press Menu on the touch screen.
     
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow to display Fax.
     
  3. Press Fax.
     
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow to display Remaining Jobs.
     
  5. Press Remaining Jobs.

     

    • The LCD will display any jobs awaiting redial.
       
    • If no jobs are awaiting redial, the LCD will read "No Jobs Waiting."

     

  6. Press the Up or Down arrow to scroll through the jobs and press the job you want to stop the machine from redialing.
     
  7. Press OK.
     
  8. Do one of the following:

     

    • Press Yes to cancel the job.
       
    • Press No to exit without canceling the job.

     

  9. Do one of the following:

     

 

Sending a fax manually

If you are sending a fax manually and the fax is not successful, your machine will not automatically redial the number.

To manually send a fax, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press Fax to illuminate it.
     
  2. Load your document.

    If you are faxing from the scanner glass, you can only send a single-page fax.
     
  3. Do one of the following:

     

    • If your Brother machine has a handset, pick it up and listen for a dial tone.
       
    • If your Brother machine has the Hook or Speaker Phone key on the control panel, press Hook or Speaker Phone and listen for a dial tone.
       
    • If your Brother machine has the Tel/R key on the control panel, pick up the handset of a telephone connected to the EXT jack (socket) on the Brother machine and listen for a dial tone.

     

  4. Dial the fax number you want to send to.
     
  5. When you hear the fax tones of the receiving fax machine, press Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start on the machine.

    If you are using the flat scanner glass, choose Send to send the fax.
     
  6. If you lifted the handset of your Brother machine or an external telephone, hang it up.
