How can I connect the printer to my mobile device via Wi-Fi®?

  • To connect to a wireless network, you must use the Li-ion battery (Optional: PA-BT-4000LI) and AC adapter (Optional: PA-AD-600).
  • To print wirelessly using iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, etc. (hereinafter referred to as “Apple device”), you must use AirPrint.
  • AirPrint (compatible with Apple device) can print the picture, PDF file and etc.

First you must configure the wireless network settings of your printer to communicate with your wireless router/access point.
 

  1. Connect your printer to your wireless router/access point.
     
  2. Connect your mobile device to the same wireless router/access point. (You can skip this step if your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi® network.)

  3. You can now print from your mobile device wirelessly.



If your wireless router/access point supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup™), do the following:

 

Connect using a wireless router/access point (WPS)

  1. First, confirm that your wireless router/access point has the WPS symbol, and place the printer close to the wireless router/access point.

  2. Turn on your printer.

  3. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator starts blinking in blue.

  4. Press the WPS button on your wireless router/access point.

  5. When the connection is established, the Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator on your printer lit in blue.
    If the Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator on your printer does not appear:
    Connect the printer and the wireless router/access point using your computer.
    Go to "Connect the printer and the wireless router/access point using your computer (Infrastructure mode)".

  6. Connect your mobile device to the wireless router/access point. (You can skip this step if your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi network.)
    1. Tap [Settings] - [Wi-Fi] on the mobile device, and slide the toggle button to activate Wi-Fi.
    2. Select the SSID (Network Name) of the wireless router/access point that you connected to in step 4, and then enter the password. The connection between your mobile device and the wireless router/access point will be established.
  7. Start the application in your mobile device, and tap the settings icon.

  8. Select the printer you use from the list of printers.

  9. You can now print from your mobile device wirelessly.

Connect the printer to the wireless router/access point using your computer (Infrastructure mode)

Before you proceed, make sure your computer is equipped with a Wi-Fi interface that is connected to a wireless network. If it is not, the computer will not be able to connect to your printer wirelessly.

  1. Connect your computer to your wireless router/access point.

  2. Connect your Brother printer to the same wireless router/access point.

  3. Connect your printer and computer.

  4. Connect your mobile device to the same wireless router/access point. (You can skip this step if your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi network.)

  5. Connect your mobile device and printer.

    Before you begin, confirm the SSID (Network Name) and the password (Network Key) of your wireless router/access point.

    1. Download the printer driver from the [Downloads] section of this website.

    2. Double-click the downloaded file to begin the installation.

    3. Click [Next].

    4. When the screen for selecting the connection method appears, select [Wireless Network Connection], and then click [Next].

    5. Select [Brother Peer-to-Peer Network Printer] and then click [Next].

    6. Select [Change the Firewall port settings to enable network connection and continue with the installation. (Recommended)], and then click [Next].

    7. Prepare the USB cable, select [Yes, I have a USB cable to use for installation], and then click [Next]. Follow the on-screen instructions.

    8. The wizard will search for wireless networks available to your printer.

    9. Select the SSID (Network Name) noted beforehand, and then click [Next].

    10. Type in [Network Key(Password)], and then click [Next].

    11. Make sure that the setting of Wireless LAN is correct, and then click [Next].

    12. Disconnect the USB cable between your computer and printer, and then click [Next].

    13. Select the printer from list, and then click [Next].

    14. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software installation.

    15. When the installation is complete, and then click [Finish] to close the installer window.

    16. When the printer is connected to your wireless router/access point, the Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator on your printer light in blue.

    17. Connect your mobile device to the wireless router/access point. (You can skip this step if your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi network.)

       

      1. Tap [Settings] - [Wi-Fi] and slide the toggle button to activate the Wi-Fi function.
      2. Select the SSID you connected to in step i. Your device and the wireless router/access point will be connected.

    18. Start your mobile application, and then tap the Settings icon.

    19. Select the printer from the list.

    20. You can now print from your mobile device wirelessly.

Ad-hoc mode allows you to connect the printer to your computer or mobile device directly without a Wi-Fi access point/router.

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on your printer for one second to turn the Wi-Fi function on.
  3. Use your PC to configure the Ad-hoc mode settings of the printer.
  4. Use your computer or mobile device to select the SSID of your printer, and if your set the password on the Printer Setting Tool, enter the password. When the connection is established, the Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator lit.

For Apple devices

The following devices may not support Ad-hoc mode:

  • (iOS 14 or later) iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, and iPhone SE 2nd generation
  • (iPadOS 14 or later) iPad Pro 5th generation and iPad Air 4th generation
  • iPad and iPad mini released after 2021

For computers

Not all computers and operating systems, may support Ad-hoc mode.
