Set up your Brother machine on a wireless network (Windows/macOS)

1. Before you set up your Brother machine

You must find out the wireless network settings of your wireless router or access point. Check and write down the current wireless network settings below (you will need this information later):
 

  • Network Name (also known as "SSID" or "ESSID")
  • Network Key (also known as "Password", "Security Key", or "Encryption Key")

How to find the Network Name (SSID) and Network Key (Password)

 

  1. Check the base or side of your wireless router or access point.
  2. See the documentation provided with your wireless router or access point.
  • If you need assistance during setup and want to contact Brother customer service, make sure you have your SSID (Network Name) and Network Key ready. We need this Information to assist you, so please get ready them.
  • If you do not know this information (SSID and Network Key), you cannot continue the wireless setup.
  • If you cannot find your wireless Network Name and Network Key, contact your Internet service provider or router manufacturer.

After checking the network information of your wireless router or access point, go to step 2 to set up your machine on a wireless network.

If your wireless router or access point uses WEP encryption with multiple WEP keys, write down and use only the first WEP key.

 

2. Set up a Brother machine on a wireless network

To set up your Brother machine on a wireless network:

 

  1. Connect the power cord to your Brother machine and then connect it to an AC power outlet (electrical socket).
    Turn your Brother machine on.
     
  2. Press Wi-Fi(WiFi).
     
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Find Wi-Fi Network. Press OK
     
  4. When Enable WLAN? message appears, enable the wireless network.
    This will start the wireless setup wizard.
     
  5. The machine searches for your network and display a list of available Network Names (SSIDs).
    When a list of SSIDs appears, press the Up or Down arrow key to select the SSID you wrote down earlier.
     

    If your wireless (Wi-Fi) router or access point is in stealth mode (not broadcasting the SSID (Network Name)),  enter the correct SSID (Network Name) and Network Key (Password) manually.

    1. Select the <New SSID> option, and enter the SSID.
    2. Select Infrastructure and go to Step 6.
  6. Press OK.
     
  7. Do one of the following:
    • If you are using an authentication and encryption method that requires the Network Key (Password)
      Enter the Network Key, then press OK to apply your settings.
      To apply the settings, select Yes.

      Make sure you enter the wireless password.
      Use your machine's control panel buttons or LCD to enter your password's lower-case and upper-case letters, numbers, or symbols.

    • If your authentication method is Open System and your encryption mode is None
      Go to the next step.
  8. The machine attempts to connect to the wireless device you have selected.
    • If your Brother machine connected successfully
      The machine's LCD displays Connected.
       
    • If the connection failed

      The machine will print a wireless connection report. Check the error code on the printed report.

3. Download and install your Brother machine's software

After setting up your Brother machine, you must install the driver. To download the driver:

 

> Go to the Downloads section of this website and download the Full Driver & Software Package / Full Software Package.
