Prevent unauthorized access to my Brother machine.
Memory Security lets you prevent unauthorized access to your Brother machine.
When Memory Security is on, the following operations are available:
- Receiving faxes into memory (limited by the Brother machine's memory capacity)
- Fax Forwarding (if Fax Forwarding was already on)
- Paging (if Paging was already on) *if applicable
- Remote Retrieval (if Fax Storage was already on)
When Memory Security is on, the following operations are not available:
- Printing received faxes
- Sending faxes
- Copying
- PC printing
- PC scanning
- PC Fax Receiving
- You must turn PC Fax Receiving off before you can turn Memory Security on.
- To print the faxes in memory, turn Memory Security off.
Setting up the password
Before you can turn Memory Security on, you must set a password.
- If you have already set the password, you do not need to set it again.
- Make a careful note of your password. If you forget it, please contact Brother Customer Service from "Contact Us".
To program the Memory Security password, follow these steps:
- Press MENU and choose General Setup => Security => Mem Security.
- Enter a four-digit, numerical password.
- Press the OK key.
If you are entering the password for the first time, the LCD will read "Verify."
- Re-enter the password.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.
Turning Memory Security on
Once you have programmed a password, follow these steps to turn Memory Security on:
- Press MENU and choose General Setup => Security => Mem Security.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Set Security.
- Press the OK key.
- Enter the four-digit password.
- Press the OK key.
The machine will go offline. Its LCD will read "Secure Mode."
If there is a power failure, the data in the machine's memory will remain for up to 4 days.
Turning Memory Security off
To turn Memory Security off, follow these steps:
- Press the MENU key.
- Enter the four-digit password.
Memory Security will automatically be turned off. The LCD will display the date and time.
If you enter the wrong password, the LCD will display "Wrong Password" and the machine will stay offline. The machine will remain in Secure Mode until you enter the correct password.
Changing the password
To change your Memory Security password, follow these steps:
- Press MENU and choose General Setup => Security => Mem Security.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Set Password.
- Press the OK key.
- Enter the current four-digit password.
- Press the OK key.
- Enter a new four-digit password.
- Press the OK key.
- Do one of the following:
- If the LCD does not read "Verify," go to STEP 9.
- If the LCD reads "Verify," follow these steps:
- Re-enter the new password.
- Press the OK key.
- Go to STEP 9.
- Re-enter the new password.
- If the LCD does not read "Verify," go to STEP 9.
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.
