FAQs & Troubleshooting |
I have my FAX machine set in the FAX/TEL (F/T) answer mode. What happens if I do not answer the telephone and it's a non fax call?
When your telephone/fax number is dialed, the FAX and all telephones on the same line will ring the number of times you have selected for the Ring Delay. If you do not answer the call, the FAX machine answers upon completion of the Ring Delay. It will then determine if it is a fax or a telephone (voice) call by listening for fax tones (a series of beeps every 3 seconds).
If your FAX machine hears these tones, it will receive the fax. If the FAX does not hear any fax tones, it will assume it is a telephone (voice) call and will alert you to the call through pseudo-ring/ double-ring. The length of time that the "special" ring tones occur is called the F/T Ring Time. These tones will ring on the FAX machine only (extension or an external telephone will not ring). However, you can answer the call from the handset of the FAX or an extension telephone connected on the same line.
-
If you are at the FAX, you can lift the handset of the FAX to answer.
-
If you are at the FAX and lift the handset of an external telephone (connected to the EXT jack on the FAX for USA), you must lift the handset of the FAX and replace it on the handset holder in order to release the call.
-
If you answer using an extension telephone (telephone connected to a separate wall jack), you must press the telephone answer code, #51 (#91 for New Zealand) to release the call from the FAX.
