Notes when installing:

Please make sure that the machine you are going to install the feature on is not busy. Also, make sure that there is no data left in the machine memory when running the install tool.

The following data will be deleted when you install the feature.

Please check the following before installing.

It is not possible to install the feature unless the following conditions are met on your machine.

• The machine is not calling or dialing a FAX.
• The machine is not scanning a document.
• The machine is not copying / or in copy settings (copy mode, number of copies, etc..).
• There are no Media cards inserted into the machine. (if applicable)
• The machine is not in the Settings Menu.
• The telephone line is not busy. (Disconnect your telephone line to prevent any incoming calls.)
• There's no error message on LCD panel.

Please do not turn the machine off until the installation is completed.

How to download and install

[When the machine is connected to the Macintosh via USB]

1. Once downloading is completed, double click the downloaded file to install the application.
   Note:
   If you don't find the installer package icon, please extract the downloaded file "BR[file name].dmg" manually with the Macintosh "Disk Utility". The "Disk Utility" can be found in /Applications/Utilities. Using the "Disk Utility", the Installer Disk Image can be mounted.
2. Double click the installer package icon "BrotherFirmwareUpdateTool.pkg".
3. Follow the instructions on the screen. Make sure that the machine is connected to the Macintosh with a USB cable.
4. The update will start.
5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.

[When the machine is connected to the network]

1. Once downloading is completed, double click the downloaded file to install the application.
   Note:
   If you don't find the installer package icon, please extract the downloaded file "BR[file name].dmg" manually with the Macintosh "Disk Utility". The "Disk Utility" can be found in /Applications/Utilities. Using the "Disk Utility", the Installer Disk Image can be mounted.
2. Double click the installer package icon "BrotherFirmwareUpdateTool.pkg".
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
   Note:
   * If the "Failed to connect to the Brother Internet Server. Make sure your PC is connected to Internet." message appears, please check the following:
     i. The network cable is connected to your Macintosh.
     ii. Your Macintosh is connected to network.
     iii. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarily disabled.
   * If the "Cannot find a machine to update." message appears, please check the following:
     i. The machine is turned on.
     ii. The network cable is connected to the machine.
     iii.The IP address of the machine is correctly set.
     iv. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarily disabled.
4. The update will start.
5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.
   If you have other machines connected to the network, you can continue installing the feature on these machines by clicking 'Continue' and selecting the model you would like to install the feature on.
