Important Notes before Updating

     
    • Please make sure that the machine you are going to update the firmware is not busy. Also, make sure that there is no data left in the machine memory when running the firmware update tool.
     
    • Please check the following on your computer.
      • Open Printer Properties and confirm that your printer is functioning correctly by printing a test page.
      • Please close all applications and TSR's.
      • If you are using a Windows XP SP2 Firewall or other Firewall software, disable it.
     
    • It is not possible to update the firmware unless the following conditions are met on your machine.
      • The machine is not receiving or processing the data. (Make sure the Data LED is off or not blinking)
      • The machine is not printing a document.
      • If you are using a Macintosh computer, Printer Driver or CUPS Printer Driver must be installed.
     

    The following data will be deleted when you update the firmware.

    • Reprint data stored in the memory

How to Install

Note:

Please do not turn off the machine until firmware update finishes.

 

[When the machine is connected to the Macintosh via USB]

  1. Once downloading is completed, open the Downloads folder in the Dock and double click the downloaded file named “BR[file name].dmg”. The Installer Disk Image will be mounted on your Desktop.

  2. Double click the Installer Disk Image, and then double click the installer package icon named "BrotherFirmwareUpdateTool.pkg".
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen. Make sure that the machine is connected to the Macintosh with a USB cable.
  4. The update will start.
  5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.

[When the machine is connected to the network]

  1. Once downloading is completed, open the Downloads folder in the Dock and double click the downloaded file named “BR[file name].dmg”. The Installer Disk Image will be mounted on your Desktop.
  2. Double click the Installer Disk Image, and then double click the installer package icon named "BrotherFirmwareUpdateTool.pkg".
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
    Note:
    * If the "Failed to connect to the Brother Internet Server. Make sure your PC is connected to Internet." message appears, please check the following:
    1. The network cable is connected to your Macintosh.
    2. Your Macintosh is connected to network.
    3. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled.
    * If the "Cannot find a machine to update." message appears, please check the following:

     

    1. The machine is turned on.
    2. The network cable is connected to the machine.
    3. The IP address of the machine is correctly set.
    4. Your anti-virus software and firewall software are temporarliy disabled.
  4. The update will start.
  5. When the "Successfully Completed" message is displayed, click 'Done'.
    If you have other machines connected to the network, you can update the firmware on these machines by clicking 'Continue' and selecting the model you would like to update the firmware.
