FAX-modem driver install


    The FAX modem driver lets you use your computer to send and receive faxes via your Brother MFC.
Step 1.
Please connect your MFC to your PC (running Ubuntu) with a USB cable.
Network connection is not supported.
Step 2.
For 64bit-Linux Users:
Run the following command.

Command:sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
Step 3.
Download the driver for your machine (brfaxmodem-x.x.x-x.i386.deb).
Step 4.
Install the driver.

Command: sudo dpkg -i brfaxmodem-x.x.x-x.i386.deb
Step 5.
Go to the directory (/opt/brother/modem/src/).

Command: cd /opt/brother/modem/src/
Step 6.
Open the following file using a text editor with the "sudo" command.
/opt/brother/modem/src/brusbmfc.c

Change the 174th line as follows:

Change:
static spinlock_t my_lock = SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED;

To:
static DEFINE_SPINLOCK(my_lock);
Step 7.
Run the command.

Command:sudo make

If you receive the following error mssage "make: *** /lib/modules/x.x.x-xx-generic/build: No such file or directory. Stop.", you type the following command.

Command:sudo apt-get install linux-headers-x.x.x-xx-generic
(where x.x.x-xx is your Kernel number)
Step 8.
Run the following commands.

sudo make install
sudo chmod 755 /opt/brother/modem/
sudo update-rc.d brfaxservice defaults
sudo /opt/brother/modem/setup
