Use FAX-modem driver with Ubuntu



    The FAX sending method by MFC-FAX Modem driver.
Step 1.
The image data to send is changed into a TIFF format.
Please input the following commands on the terminal.
 
Command: fax make file_name (ps file / pbm file)
 
Refer to the Linux manual for more information on "fax make" command.

 

Step 2.
Input the following command to send the fax.
 
Command: efax -d /dev/modem -t (fax_number) file_name.tiff
 

    Receiving a fax using the MFC-FAX modem driver
Step 1.
Make sure your MFC is set to PC Fax Receive mode.
Please refer to the User's Guide for your machine if you are not sure how to do this.
Network connection is not supported.
Step 2.
Type the following command in a terminal window to activate receiving mode.
 
 
Command: sudo fax answer
Step 3.
The received data is saved in the following folder.
 
/var/spool/fax
 
You can view the received data with your favorite photo editing application.
"sudo fax answer" command is ended after receiving FAX.

When you receive FAX continuously, input "sudo fax answer" again.
 

Please input the following commands, when you receive continuously automatically.

Command: while [ 1 ] ; do sudo fax answer ; done
 
 
 
When you stop the above, input the following commands on other terminals.

Command: sudo fax stop
 

Then, perform "Ctrl-C" on the terminal which inputted "while [ 1 ] ; do sudo fax answer ; done."
 

Input the following commands, when you receive continuously again.

Command: sudo fax start
Command: while [ 1 ] ; do sudo fax answer ; done
 

     The send/receive method using efax-gtk.

You can send and receive more easily by using efax-gtk.
